The Secret Garden ~ Sacred Tattoo Design

Tanya Sacred Tattoo Design

Another enchanting journey in the realm of sacred tattoo designs comes to closure, and yet for my client, that journey has just begun. The title of this one is inspired by my Faery friend, Laura Bruno, who has the most enchanting garden both indoors and outdoors, reflecting a true magickal and witchy “Secret Garden”.

I love hearing and feeling the way these designs have an effect on my clients when they are revealed for the first time. The energy we share in the process is such an intimate connection and so each person becomes dear to me as we share that exchange during the creation and manifestation. Their powerful and beautiful reflections upon seeing them is the reason for why I do what I do.

This particular design is quite a large piece at 15″ long and 7″ at widest point, as it is created to flow down right side of my client’s back from shoulder to waist.

Having a larger space to work with is a lot of fun because I have a larger canvas to weave things in and detailing isn’t as challenging, since it will interpret better in ink when larger. With the size I was also able to create a graceful and ethereal, feminine flow to the piece where there are areas that just have beautiful delicate extensions and swirls and other areas that are a little more solid.

Yet, still, I kept to an organic feel with this and everything has a very balanced essence that anchors and centers the focal point. Although feminine, it is quite a powerful piece and will be a reflection of her sacred and empowered Feminine energy.

My client had shared butterflies and sunflowers were very important to her, which I couldn’t have been more excited about since those are two of my favorite things! Sunflowers are my favorite flower and butterflies have been with me on my spiritual journey as my own empowering symbols.

I felt from the start that there would be more than one butterfly and the same with the sunflowers. I’d seen this vine-like flow immediately too, and then a few other symbols started to flow through that felt key for her. These included a dandelion and dandelion leaf, a ladybug, and two Runes. I will share a bit more on each.

There is on the surface the feeling of this very enchanted garden and then as we dig further we uncover the symbolism embodied within it, to reflect things important to my client and her energy.

Two butterflies: I created the butterflies with a very magickal/faery-like essence with flowing tails to their wings and very ethereal shapes. Each with lovely spiral antennas. The one at top left has antennas that create a subtle heart shape, bringing universal love along with its transformational gifts. Butterfly medicine symbolizes transformation, celebration, transition, lightness, soul, time, grace, elegance, freedom, joy and bliss, miracles, flexibility, cycles of life, creativity, gentleness, preciousness of life, as well as the medicine the ability and clarity of mind needed before self-transformation. These butterflies also represent the more feminine aspects with their gracefulness and curved wings and design, and that connection with understanding both the strength and fragility simultaneously in life. The top left one has a Rune inside it, balanced between both wings from center. More on that below. The butterflies are fluttering around the sunflowers, whose nectar and bright colors attract them, pollinating and bringing “hope” to the flowers in the circle of life. Two is the energy of balance, duality, kindness, equalization, diversity, stability, reflection, choice, exchanges with others, partnerships, communication, desire, and asks us to exert our natural flow of judgment to do what is best for our souls. In alchemy, two are the opposites – like Sun and Moon, King and Queen, Sacred Male and Female, and also are like the Twin Flame aspect within yourself.

Three sunflowers: I created two that are in full blossom representing aspects of my client that are in their wholeness, and to empower her into her wholeness, and one that is a bud, which represents spiritual/personal growth and the ever-evolving journey, where she is learning new things about herself and going through continual transformations into these new layers as she continues along her path. Sunflowers are symbolic of the Sun, spiritual attainment, flexibility and opportunity (the way they move their massive heads to meet the sun), faith, longevity, healing, nourishment, focus, good luck, magick, worship, spiritual knowing, life giving force, vitality, warmth, pleasure, and light. Sunflowers are also symbols of spiritual attainment, flexibility and opportunity, the way they move their massive heads to meet the sun. I created the two open blossoms with spiral centers. The spiral is a symbol of creation, movement, fluidity, surrender/releasing, holistic growth, and awareness of the one within the context of the whole. It reveals the cyclical nature of life, the consciousness of nature from core center expanding outward, and the relationship between unity and multiplicity. It is the limitless spirals that move both “inward towards the Source of creation and eternally outward with Source’s continual self-creation.” In this way, the spiral reflects the contiguous journey home to who you really are and the journey to be one with Source. There are three sunflowers and the number three generally symbolizes creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow.

Spirals: in the stems and antennas of the butterflies as well, which signify growth and the above mentioned symbolism of the spirals inside of the sunflowers.

Dandelion and dandelion leaf: dandelions symbolize growth, warmth, clarity, healing, radiance, illumination, positivity, progress, hopes and dreams. The white puffball (rather than the yellow flower) is symbolic of intelligence, clarity, purity, cleansing, spirit/soul, space, and new beginnings. To me it felt also very magickal and faery in essence, with those white little puffs like star seeds when they blow and seed new spark of life. The green leaves/stems represent mother earth, groundedness, wholesomeness, growth, resurgence, nature and life.

Ladybug: the ladybug channeled through along with runes and so one graces one of the sunflower leaves adding her magick. Lady bugs are a sign of good luck, of wishes coming true, love and protection. Lady bug wisdom carries the Golden Strand that leads to the Center of the Universe, represents past lives, spiritual enlightenment, death and rebirth, protection, happiness, love, luck, friendship, good deeds done, and good omens.

Two Runes: Algiz and Dagaz came through for her given things she had shared and what I intuited. The Rune Dagaz is the one at the center of the upper left butterfly. You can read a bit about it at this link: http://runesecrets.com/rune-meanings/dagaz which includes: Awakening – new worlds, new possibilities, new opportunities arise as others fade away, awareness, hope-happiness, the ideal, paradigm shift. All things are interconnected and in a state of constant flux. There is balance in all things, celestial and material.  The Rune Algiz is found within the center of the dandelion leaf as part of the stem extending into the leaf. You can read a bit about it here: http://runesecrets.com/rune-meanings/algiz which includes: the essential link or connection with the patterns of divine or archetypal consciousness. It is divinity, state of listening, protective teaching force, the divine plan, awakening, higher life, connection with gods, courage in the face of fear, activation of higher self, communication with otherworlds, mystical communication, strengthening life force through courageous deeds, promotes independence and faith, spiritual force that envelops you with so much energy you that you are sacred and protected by Divine power.

It is a very magickal and powerful piece all around, which I really enjoyed creating and birthing into life. Flowing with the energy of it and the divine essence my client embodies in her wholeness that I see, enabled this vision to come through.

There is so much more that can be said in how things are placed and how they all intertwine and weave their energy, one into the other, but as always, I hope my clients and the people that view these will enjoy figuring out their own interpretative reflections daily.

Guardian of Sacred Wisdom ~ Owl Tattoo Design

Jerry Sacred Tattoo DesignThis was such an amazing piece to be a part of co-creating with my client. Not only do I absolutely love owls, but the energy that presented itself when channeling this piece is very meaningful to me to be able to create.

I can’t share enough how honored I am to find out that not only will this piece grace his skin, but is going to be the cover of his dissertation, with an inclusion of my description I shared with him, in an appendix to it.

I’m blown away and feeling deeply moved with so much gratitude.

This design was completed on the 11/11 portal, which again is one of those powerful synchronicities that seem to always take place along this sacred design journey.

I had very little to go on in terms of information provided, so I was able to just tune in to what I felt in the words that were shared with me, in between the words, and beyond the words. This brought me to a very expansive energy and presence wanting to birth forth.

I knew how much owls meant to my client and I wanted to bring to life one that would embody the elements that were dear to him, while not being static, as in just sitting there. This led me to create one with wings wide open, as if in flight, or just lifting off into flight (wing power being embodied in it for energetic strength and expansive consciousness). This also reflected how my client loves the “quiet stealth of their flying” as he put it, so this reiterated my vision.

I also had an area to work with on the forearm that created a more narrow space it would sit and while was told it was okay to wrap around if need be, it was important to me that it mostly fit facing forward seen in fullness. This became interesting, as I wanted movement and to see the wings, but didn’t want them fully wrapped around where you couldn’t appreciate them upon first glance. I also didn’t want an owl just sitting there with wings to its side.

There will be a bit of wing wrap to the sides in the area we were working with, (in terms of tip and upper/outer portion of them) but since wings are like our own arms (arms and hands are connected to the sign of Gemini, the Air element, and communication), then this seemed energetically fitting to create some expanse, movement, and flow around.

The owl’s eyes are so important to me as well, and so I wanted an owl with those powerful “windows to the soul” in a partially forward facing position so that you could see both eyes, but with a bit of that “looking off into the distance” quality, creating the visionary essence that they carry.

There is a sense of stillness and grace, even in the fluidity of motion…very empowered, even regal in a way, and yet with humble integrity and peace.

Another thing that stood out to me was my client sharing how he loved that owls were a “global” bird, found all over the world. From onset, this immediately brought to vision me seeing the owl holding Earth within his powerful talons, as if bringing his gifts of ancient wisdom to the collective, teaching us how to live in natural harmony with her, and acting as her guardian and peace keeper, as well as communicative bridge of unity.

Owls also symbolize intuition, magick, they reveal the hidden realm, help us have keen awareness within silence, and signify an old soul and mastery – so energetically I wanted the whole piece/owl to embody this essence as well.

I was then being led to Native American Indian symbolism when I was tuning in, but I was also getting this feeling and vision of a labyrinth. In researching I discovered that the labyrinth was a common Native American Indian symbol that they used to represent life as a journey and our infinite, eternal nature, and that along with other symbolic mandala designs they created, the labyrinth mandala was one of them.

Focusing on the labyrinth mandala is a way to understand that life is what you make it and the way we choose to live it, determines the degree of freedom and expansiveness we experience.

“Every step of the journey is integral to the path of wholeness that you are on. It is ever-changing and ever-perfect, taking you to your own sacred center and back out into the expansive reflection found there. At times you may need to call upon your intuition and creativity, engaging receptivity and courage when deciding to enter the journey to center or not – the way in is the way out.” – something I recently wrote about labyrinths in an article.

This all reiterated my feeling, which went along with the energy I was receiving to make a part of this sacred design. So the labyrinth was added, centered between the owl’s wings, as if they energetically hold this “portal” of life evolution and experience when they fully expand with the breath of freedom the owl soars through the sky with. It felt to be a key gateway that is created from recognizing and embracing our sovereign free will, and then putting that into responsible and accountable action throughout our lives, in every experience, and with all of life that we encounter. Our choices not only have impact on our own journey, but will create how that journey evolves at large in collective connection.

And lastly, to create movement and flow, the addition of the dancing energy that entwines, threads, and holds all of the integral key pieces of this story together in an alchemical current of mutable rapture, emerged.

Garden of the Goddess ~ Sacred Tattoo Mandala Design

Irena Sacred Tattoo DesignIt’s always an interesting challenge when I’m presented a piece to create that incorporates an already existent tattoo. With this design, I was to create something that integrated what you see at center – the Pentagram with Celtic Knot inverted triangle and the Moon phases.

From there, I wove the rest of the journey, incorporating my client’s essence and aspects of herself she wanted to draw forth for the new leg of her journey, as well as to bring to the surface in a more empowered way.

I told her immediately that I was feeling to create something ethereal and graceful, yet powerful, embodying a sacred and empowered Goddess essence. I also wanted it to have both an Earthy and mystical energy, combining balanced sacred geometry, but with a flowy, organic quality that is unique and feminine, actively creating itself in the moment.

It turned out to feel very Faery in essence and almost like a stained glass window or lattice work effect…so it’s like a vision peering into the soul essence of who she is and her intricacies – very tender and vulnerable, but regal and intentfully strong. A beautiful weaving of who she is, like an illuminated star blossom.

Immediately when I started tuning in, I received the Peacock, Moth, and Star Jasmine and the rest wove itself as I wanted to tie in qualities that would enhance the tattoo she already had, and also work with its essence, so that it looks like it was meant to be and not pieced together.

Overall, I feel like it’s a portal into this enchanted Garden of the Goddess (or Empress/High Priestess). So magickal!!

I love when my clients are open to what flows through, realizing there is a reason that something they may not have considered, shows up. This client had shared a couple of things that she resonated with, but they did not energetically do so for me when I tuned in, at least not in literal ways, or particularly for this piece. They were not matching the essence of the design and what wanted to come through, so I was guided that there was another way to bring about the energy in a more subtle and feminine flow that worked in alignment with her current tattoo.

For instance, my client had shared resonance with Elephants, and while a very powerful symbol, felt heavy, even if done in line drawings that she liked, and not as intricate and beautiful to her layers and this sacred feminine quality that ended up being created. It also didn’t energetically feel to fit with her current tattoo and I don’t like to just add things together that have no connective factor…I wanted it to blend and feel like one unified piece.

And the Tree of Life she also was drawn to came out in sort of an energetic/abstract way through this piece, rather than literal like so many other people have. There is a quality of entwined and wrapping branches from the six-pointed, organic star that bloom/grow from the center, which is like a Heart Chakra Lotus, because it has 12 petals. So the family connection and her roots are at the core of her being and heart, and are the connection of unity for her. The branches, rather than purely straight, bend like vines in this lattice work, showing her resiliency and strength to flow in any situation. And the branch-like vines double as the Star Jasmine vines, from which they grow as well – so many layers of symbolism, as you’ll continue to see.

Anyway, there is so much to continue to find and unravel in the piece. Here are some of the aspects included:

Personal Empowerment Mandala: (feels like the mandala is fluid and moving, so it is not static, although created with sacred geometry – has a flowing quality that recreates itself each moment as she shifts and changes) Mandalas are geometric figures representing the Universe. In this case, she is the Universe and this empowerment mandala is a reflection of the very “fabric” of her You-niverse – the core of her being and aspects of her higher self to help her to move more gracefully into expressing that. The mandala will help to focus her energy in a way that is connected to her authentic self.

Peacock: the Peacock was a surprise to her, although she resonated with and loved the energetic symbolism of them always. I find it powerful when things are revealed to my clients about themselves that they hadn’t fully thought of, or that sneak up on them. Often the very reason things at first sit a bit odd, is because they haven’t yet fully embraced this part of themselves it reflects, or the responsibility and power it might bring up for them. The Peacock has a very regal essence and is both humble and yet stands with dignity and strength. There is a tenderness in its eyes and a feeling of honoring and respect, as well as flowing grace. I just wanted hints of the peacock coming forth, so two gorgeous flowing tail feathers delicately peek through one end, as the Peacock emerges from the other. Almost as if this mandala is a dimensional portal where things manifest from and come through as it shifts into the right elements to create alchemy. And all of the things you find in the piece are qualities of her essence and wholeness that are peeking forth and emerging more, as she steps into her fullness and power. From elegant, Earthly being, majestically and gracefully reigning over the gardens of life, they transform into an other-worldly, Phoenix-like creature soaring magickally through the limitless sky. Peacocks symbolize many things including integrity, the beauty we can achieve through showing our authentic colors, guidance, protection, holiness, nobility, vibrancy, help on your spiritual path, breath of new life into your experience, rejuvenating self-esteem, expansion of your creativity and imagination, and courage to show up as your unique self. They also symbolize glory, vision, watchfulness, royalty, spirituality, awakening, immortality, refinement, beauty, desire, enjoying life, generosity, longevity, compassion, sensuality, immortality, and expansiveness. In Buddhism the peacock symbolizes expansive consciousness and is representative of the all-compassionate goddess Kuan Yin. The eyes of the peacock feathers symbolizing the omniscient essence of the soul that is all-seeing and all-knowing. As a royal status, peacocks represent the realm of the Empress and High Priestess. Being a solar animal peacocks express the essence of vitality, radiance, glory, stimulation, life, health, and invigoration. Alchemical traditions compare the resurrecting Phoenix to our modern-day Peacock, bestowing the symbolism of renewal upon it.

Moth: (there are two on the right top and left bottom at a diagonal) Moths are nocturnal. They symbolize dreams, shadows, otherworldliness, secret knowledge, higher awareness, psychic awareness and enhancement, inner knowing to navigate through the darkest hours of our lives, faith in uncertain shadowy times, vulnerability, determination, wise and balanced use of concealment – blend in when necessary and adjust and adapt when needed, attraction, subtlety and subtle allure, intuition, determination, navigation by lunar energy and light (feeling), vigilance in following your path of light, keeping your vigilance, adjusting your course accordingly to indications sensed rather than drive forward without heeding signs…

Star Jasmine: Jasmine remind you that all is in Divine order with the Divinity of your existence. (they remind me of nature’s stars and worked symbolically and aesthetically so beautifully I felt) They are simple star-shaped, five-petaled blossoms – ethereal and magickal. White Jasmine is both known as poet’s Jasmine and the “Queen of flowers.” They have an intoxicating fragrance that draws in hummingbirds, butterflies, and humans alike. Jasmine flowers symbolize many things to many different cultures.  Some of these include love, romance, modesty, sensuality, amiability, nobility, grace, and elegance. However, the Jasmine also holds strong spiritual and religious significance, as it has been a constant symbol of divinity and hope. They felt like the perfect magickal touch to this piece, both of nature of also like star blossoms, tying in the star pentacle you have on your tattoo, and your own integration of cosmic and earthly essence. They float like the illumination the moths are instinctively and intuitively following to stay on their path/which is you and your instinctive clarity guiding you. Some of the star jasmine are entwined in the flowing Celtic knots of the mandala, as they speak of integration and the many layers you have, how all things are connected and integral to the journey.

Hexagon:  The mandala took on a 6-pointed design, which holds a very potent and beautiful quality. The number six is also significant and felt meaningful for her. It represents harmony, balance, soulful integration, perfect union, communication, sincerity, love, beauty, truth, enlightenment, naturally revealing solutions for us in a calm, unfolding manner, delicate diplomacy in sensitive matters, reliability, home, family, lighting our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance, and encourages compassion and forgiveness. It is connected with the very powerful Hexagon and Merkaba.

Star Essence: the total piece has the essence of a star symbolism, as well as a blossom…or rather I’d say – a star blossom. Her current tattoo nestled as the center of this organic flower that then emanates, opens and reveals more layers to itself as it blossoms.

Celtic Knot: found in the branching vines are used to tie in with her tattoo at center, creating the essence of eternity and continuity.

In Memory Of ~ Sacred Mandala Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo Design MandalaThis design is a custom Mandala created for a client that wanted to honor her mother. She wears a tattoo that honors her father already, and so this one will be in compliment to that piece.

It will bring balance as a sweet energy partner to the more masculine, bolder energy of the piece she wears, with more feminine qualities, as well as a more spiritual, ethereal lightness/softness. I didn’t want to create something overly dual in nature, but rather something that would combine some energetic elements so that they enhance and merge, rather than are complete opposites. So I used some bolder lines to match her other design, but with a softer quality.

Her relationship with her mother was different than her relationship with her father – much more layered, in depth, and complex.

There’s a sacred centering quality with this design in creating symmetry, and a mix of pointed edges combined with rounded ones, and flow/organic, as well as sacred symbolism.

I combined the elements that were important to my client and managed to get them all in. In this case, she knew what she wanted and the symbolism it all represented, but it was up to me to figure out how to put them all together, interpret, and combine them somehow – to tell the story.

Sometimes my clients have very clear ideas of what they would like and other times they bring the essence, and I supply the vision to reflect it.

The elements she brought to me to work with were the Dragonfly (represents her mom’s spirit/have shown up for her since her passing at meaningful times – she desired something abstract), Scales of Justice (representing Libra, which her mom was), Star (a beautiful bright star was in the sky the last night before her mom transitioned/this also provides comfort of her presence), Greek Key (her heritage), Mandala (sacred/spiritual connection), and Heart Chakra essence (her spirituality and yoga practice).

The Dragonfly is at center and I created it abstractly, as desired, subtly but strong, and with a transparent quality, and yet her presence is integral and stabilizing to the energy. She anchors the center and the middle of the body I actually created as an Infinity symbol for that unity and cycles of life essence – all things are connected and eternal. The darker lines are the wings at both sides that you can see through clearly, sort of mirroring that reflective/luminescent quality they have in real life. The Dragonfly of course representing her mother and the way she has messaged her. The Dragonfly also very subtly has a mirroring quality to the Scales of Justice it points to above.

I wanted the whole piece to have a very layered and complex feel, to symbolize the more in depth and layered relationship she shared having with her mother, as well as each of their individually dimensional layers. So the design is built upon these layers and also the wings of the Dragonfly are transparent, creating vulnerability and dissolving of illusions, as well as clarity of focus and intent.

The main part of the Mandala is created as the Heart Chakra Twelve-Petaled Lotus. Inside of the twelve petals this blossom is layered with almost like a Sun and even Star quality effect with tiers of petals both rounded and in temple points with some delicate dot detailing on some and shaded aspects for depth and contrast. The center of the blossom, like a full Moon, illuminates behind the Infinity symbol.

The bottom of the Dragonfly is created almost as a stem and petaled detailing (also somewhat reminds me of the fleur-de-lis design) that holds the Infinity symbol and anchors the body in grounded balance, but also holds and frames the emanating center that is blossoming and illuminating outward. The Dragonfly has a strong and refined presence, although is integrated into the design and revealing to the layers beneath it.

I added 3 dots at both top and bottom to tie in with the dotted quality in the blossoms (adding some hints of delicate Mehndi quality) and to draw energy both up and down, in and out, as above, so below…Three is a symbol of creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow.

And at the top of the center, and above the Dragonfly, is a Seven-Pointed Star anchoring flowing tendrils of energy at either side that double as the Libra essence (her mother was a Libra) with subtle Scales of Justice ending in Greek Key design (again her heritage). The Seven-Pointed Star is also known as the Pleiadian Star or Faery Star and is a Gateway to the Otherworld. A beautiful reminder of eternal life and her eternal connection to her mother.

This, along with the entirety of the symbolism in this piece, representing her ability to connect with her mother through the portal of her Heart Chakra, as her presence – the Dragonfly – is always with her and can be accessed in this way. The energy also speaks to the qualities she is gifted to integrate into the totality of who she is as a reflection of her mother…and also father (the design she already wears), as a blending of both and yet emerging as something more.

Such a beautiful energy and connection between mother and daughter that I was able to assist in bringing forth. It’s meaningful to be able to create memorable pieces like this for others.

A Dragon’s “Tale” ~ Sacred Tattoo Design Journeying

Sacred Tattoo Design“Our intent is the creative process that reaches forth in the invisible field of potentiality, to trigger a mystical chain of events that can manifest the most seemingly impossible dreams into reality.” ~David Cunliffe

This design was another magickal journey to create. It really pieced itself together, and that came along with allowing the energy to speak through, rather than leading it, as is always best with this process and why I can’t always gauge the timing on them.

It was definitely interesting once again to have it percolating and creating itself under the influence of the Scorpio New Moon Eclipse and even the Mercury Retrograde period, because that all added powerful transformational energy, as well as the ground work for the journey that now is ready, since the Retrograde has moved out.

It’s always so hard to capture the designs in photos, especially with larger pieces like this one (about 20+ inches in length) because you just can’t get the lighting ever quite right, nor the details to really illuminate on a small computer screen. Nonetheless, I know that people like to see the images, so I’m sharing so you can at least feel the essence of it.

Anyway, that all said, what a beautiful challenge it was in creating this piece. And some interesting synchronicities along the way that never cease to amaze me, as I become so intimately connected to each piece and the energy, as if I am living through it myself.

I remember when I created the cocoon and emerging butterfly that I had synchronously been reading a book about caterpillars that turn into butterflies during those days, as well as when I was completing it had just been listening to someone mention rebirth, while I then smiled amusingly down on the paper where the butterfly was. AND, when I was drawing/finalizing the horse, I had music on that had these magickal horse neighs in it that came in just as I was working on it. LOVE that!!

The designs create themselves, but what I immediately received when I first tuned in was that this would weave a beautiful story that flows up my client’s arm, almost like a reality faery tale woven around powerful symbolism to support her journey into the intents and paths she is headed to, while also transmuting the past.

So it is a magickal and almost allegorical story, if you may (if one knew the full story behind it) – with many layers, of course.

As my client had envisioned, the bottom portion up to just about the horse is the inner forearm of her right arm’s design. The branches/leaves will gracefull wrap a bit at the wrist and along the sides of the forearm. Then it will curve outward from there in the area where the woman is and the rest of the piece will be on her outer upper arm with some extending into the inner with the sparrow and star, and then the branches elegantly gracing the shoulder and perhaps slightly reaching back a bit.

After reading my client’s life experiences and what she desired to shift in her life and empower, this is the story that evolved when I tuned in.

Step, by step…..as we journey up the dragon’s tail/tale these are the symbols we discover, although there’s always more that I don’t express and different things and energy as time goes on reveal as connections are made with what channels through and how that plays out.

Dragon/Wood Dragon/Tree of Life: What spoke to me a lot was the dragon symbolism for her and remembering she is a Wood Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac, as well as her love for the Tree of Life, the first thing that came to me was to create a Wood Dragon that would also merge as a Tree of Life symbolism for her to flow up her arm as her Path in life and the journey she is on, since the Dragon is made of wood like a tree. So, hence you see that there are branches with leaves stemming from the dragon’s body and all of his scales down the back are leaves, his body the trunk of the tree and his tail also ending in small branches that root her gracefully.

The dragon symbolizes transformation, wisdom, protection, infinite self, supernatural power, primordial power and mastering all of the elements, also balance, magick, mystery, wonder, a powerful guardian and guide.  The dragon symbolism represents you as creator, bringing a visual of your inner strength within reflected on the outside and of your higher self. Within this dragon, a story is woven and the symbolism that was chosen and placements were all to help integrate intentions, heal and release the old, moving into and to hold space for the new and continual evolvement into all that she can be. The Wood Dragon is creative, imaginative, and inquisitive; both a thinker and a doer and is capable of brilliant new concepts. The Wood Dragon’s every move is guided by sound logic. Her drive and ambition allow her to put ideas into practice, knowing when to compromise if advantageous. The Wood Dragon is not as self-centered as other Dragons, but still outspoken and fearless when challenged.

Triple Spiral: this symbol anchors and begins the journey. I created one made out of leaves to stay with the theme of the tree/dragon, but also these aspects connect her with Earth and her love of Nature. The Triple Spiral represents drawing in the three powers of the Maiden, Mother, and Crone (which I felt was good to represent the aspects of my client, as well as her, her mom and grandmother, or her, her mom, and daughter) and is a sign of feminine power and empowerment through transition and growth and the unity of the three power. The Number 3 generally symbolizes creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow.

Little Girl Running up the Path: next we come to the little girl running freely up the path. I fashioned her after a drawing of a little girl my client liked so much, but added long flowy hair, as she had pictured herself when she was young. Might be hard to make out in the image, but in person easier. She is running up the dragon tail, along the leaf scaled path, joyously and easily letting go of the past, passionately running towards her dreams she is now ready to embrace whole-heartedly, and enjoying the innocence and purity of who she is in essence. She is not running “from” things, but running “toward” things with no fear. Her layered dress folding and flowing around her is the many layers of who she is that she is integrating/transmuting, and brings along with her as the complex beauty of her soul that she is.

Sunflower: along the path is a large, full blossomed sunflower in all of its glory, fully sharing its joy and vibrancy of life and life sustaining energy, demonstrating the fullness of my client embracing and standing in her power.

Wunjo Rune (looks like a P): Along the path ahead of the little girl/my client, amidst the leaf stepping stones, is the Rune known as Wunjo which carries the message and energy of joy, hope, harmony, perfection, right use of true will, well-being, contentment, relationship, strengthens bonding, optimism, effortless ease, fulfillment, wishes, accomplishment, prosperity, banishes alienation and inharmonious impediments to trust, law of attraction, and your soul’s true will and drive in life.

White Horse: of course the horse is literally symbolic of a dream my client had as a child with a love for horses, but represents the hopes and dreams she has in general, as her guiding force in life and what she is embracing more of into her life to actualize. The little girl is following her horse dream (or what it symbolizes). Horses symbolize strength, freedom of expression, grace, power, life energy, vitality, passionate desires, a driving force in your life to express your authenticity or what you thrive for, being in harmony with your primitive desires, and balancing those instincts with the more discerning tamed parts. They are transparent reflections of you and everything deep or hidden you hold within. White horses bring illumination, developing awareness of your instincts and intuition, resurrection, bringing things to light, seeing with clarity, and are messengers of rebirth. White is also about purity, innocence, wholeness, completion of a cycle in your life, awakening, elevating your spiritual aspirations, openness, growth, purification, creativity, moving in a new direction, new beginnings, fresh slates, and a blank canvas awaiting creative impetus.

Stylized Star Card Tarot Symbolism with Pentacle: as we curve around the bend of her arm we come upon a naked (free and pure) woman that is meant to symbolize the woman of the Star Tarot Card, which symbolizes personal transformation, renewed self-esteem, hope and faith, sense of knowing you are blessed by the Universe in all ways, provides courage, promise of fulfillment, inspiration, calm energy, mental stability, deeper understanding of self and others, and in general a loving phase in your life. There is the promise of a better future awaiting her and reminds her to trust that this is indeed true and possible. The Star Card realizes you have been through challenging times, but are now ready and open to healing and transformation that comes through letting go of damaging memories, patterns, and programming, while you have been strengthening your connection with your true self and essence through all of the difficult times. A time period of being able to forgive and embrace the new opportunities. Lasting happiness and new growth is upon you from a new purpose in life and through significant changes taking place with fresh perspective and increased trust in self.

The woman is the next part of the journey she is on and hovering above her hand is a five pointed star, or Pentacle. The Pentacle symbolizing the whole, the elements (fire, earth, air, water and the quintessential spirit), and its center – the meeting or bridging of heaven and earth with the four cardinal points. The five pointed star is also connected to individuality, higher education, and spiritual aspiration. The woman/my client is becoming master of the elements….sort of like a magician mastering and working her personal alchemy.

Raidho Rune (looks like an R): to the left of the “Star” woman is Raidho, connected to the leaf path. It symbolizes the journey or ride you are on. The journey of life, natural movement, motion, taking charge, being in control, initiative, adventure, decision-making followed by immediate action, direction, right path, following your inner compass, leadership, moral responsibility, integrity, respect for the rights of others, innate knowledge, rituals, in sync with natural rhythm, active presence, cosmic cyclical law, travel, rationality, freedom from imprisonment, self-mastery, living in the present, following your heart, and establishment of creative rhythm.

White Stag: we then come upon the white stag along the path. It symbolizes rebirth of light, creative life force, otherworldliness, purity, the quest, messenger between humans and the animals spirits of the Earth, healing, connects you to the other realms especially the unseen world of the Fae, helping you to establish relationships with the Faeries. The white stag is connected to the Sun (the antlers spread like the sun’s rays as well), and the stag in general is connected with other nature deities such as Cernunnos – pointing to power, strength, survival, sacred masculine in union with the feminine/Nature, transition/cycles, shamanistic power, connection with Nature and Time, longevity, abundance, endurance. (this design is going on the right arm – which is connected to the “male energy”, so is empowering the sacred masculine in integration with your wholeness). The white stag symbolizes creative life force of the universe, sex, life, death, prophecy, sign from great spirit of a major shift. The white again symbolizing higher thoughts, higher ideals, purity of soul, cleansing of spirit, attaining higher knowledge, and message that you are on a path of growth and expansion, leading you in a direction beyond your wildest dreams so get ready. Celts felt white stags as messengers from the other world heralding profound change in your life. Deer in general are sensitivity, alertness, awareness, gentleness, creativity, spirituality, renewal, grace, intuition.

Butterfly Emerging from Cocoon: to the right of the stag, maybe hard to tell on the image, is a cocoon resting on one of the branches, with a butterfly newly emerging from its cocoon. This represents being at peace with the process of evolution and coming into a new stage of your life that is ahead of you…new opportunities and potentials. It also symbolizes breaking free of old patterns and old self image/concept, releasing and shedding false masks, and freedom from confinement and inhibitions to your true self. The Butterfly also represents the more feminine aspects with her gracefulness and curved wings and design, and that connection with understanding both the strength and fragility simultaneously in life.

Swallow/Songbird: then to the right of the dragon there is a swallow, which is a songbird, and this came through to me as the symbol of my client’s “voice” and speaking her truth, finding her self-expressive truth, being willing to share her unique creative essence, banishing self-critical thoughts and words, speaking from the purity of her heart, and beautifully and joyously expressing that without fear or inhibitions. Swallows symbolize hope, fertility, renewal of life, a safe return home (home-coming to yourself), are a symbol of the love goddess Venus, and travel.

Eight Pointed Star with Kenaz Rune Spiral (looks like a V on its side): above the sparrow is an eight pointed star with a rune inside. The star sits at reach of the dragon’s paw/claws, symbolizing that what you seek is attainable and close at hand. The star above the sparrow at its crown is spiritual enlightenment, conscious awareness, and evolvement. The eight pointed star has many symbolic meanings of which some include astrologically with the roots of it symbolizing the four corners of space, the eight lines symbolic of north, south, east, west and time as well with the two solstices and two equinoxes. The first cross is the intersection of the Galactic Equator with the ecliptic and the axis perpendicular to this intersection. When the Earth Cross and the Galactic Cross are superimposed they form an eight pointed cross. It also represents the goddess Inanna or Ishtar in Babylon. In Hinduism it is the eight emanataions of the goddess Lakshmi known as Ashtalakshmi. These emanations represent eight forms of wealth: monetary, ability to transport, victory, patience, endless prosperity, health and nourishment, knowledge and family. Eight years is Venus’ (the lightbringer, brightest planet in sky) full cycle length in relation to the Sun in terms of her morning and evening star curves. The number eight is connected to regeneration, infinity, balanced duality emphasizing supreme state of strength and self-control, success, super-abundance, determination, business, resurrection, beginnings, integrating knowledge and experience.

A star symbolizing aspirations, dreams, hopes, achievement, divinity, intuition, the feminine, guidance, and the knowing that through our diligence and faith we can travel beyond our current limitations.

The Rune Kenaz symbolizes knowledge, a torch, illumination, searching for enlightenment, revealing truth by shedding light on it, skills, creativity, art, craftsmanship, intuition, clarity of thought, humility, opportunity, playfulness, enthusiasm in learning/teaching, transformation (phoenix fire), controlled energy, creative inspiration, exploration of paradigms, exposing the hidden to gain knowledge, reflection, strengthening abilities in all realms, female occult secrets, the light within, harnessing skillful use of fire, forces, and energies greater than ourselves for illumination, creating as nature does, creating our own path of light that flows through the darkness.

So, when you put it all together, I think you can see the journey that is being taken and created with the whole piece.

Voice of Divine Grace ~ Throat Chakra Sacred Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo DesignIt’s always a good challenge to work with a smaller design and within a time constraint, and yet create something potently reflecting the energy desired.

For this latest piece we were focused on creating a simple design for the back of the neck/Throat Chakra that would be supportive of a particular energy my client desired, which she stated as wanting to assist as a “Divine Love filter” to help in expressing herself with greater softness and grace, as well as keep her centered and balanced with her communication. She is also focused on her role as a loving mother, which is most important to her, and wanting all of her relating and communicating through her teaching and relations to be from this Divine place.

Hence the design is a reminder, as well as an energetic imprint to assist a frequency shift for integrating her desires.

As I’ve mentioned before, these designs are quite an intense process for me, as well as my clients, and I have also come to see how their incubation and birthing always mirrors some collective timing of things taking place (astrologically, numerologically, Full and New Moons, seasons, global transitions, etc.).

Not to mention, they have had an effect on others who see them, mirror collective shifts taking place or energetic support collectively needed, as well as have created actual physical portals here in my home where I create them and magickal appearances and experiences that chime in with what I’m drawing as confirmation, as well as tangible evidence of the energy being opened.

And then I’ve later learned of experiences, shifts, visions, and feelings that my clients had while the channeling was underway and when it was completed that mirrored the process and energy.

It’s fascinating to say the least and yesterday’s creation process of this “seemingly simple” little design, was no exception.

It’s all about the intentions and energetic frequencies that are imbued into each part of the drawing, while it is coming to life. So yes, it’s like an encoding of vibrational energies that is happening – much like the dream sequence I described in my post “White Conch and a Dream“.

Anyway, yesterday as I was drawing this, I began my session with some aligned music, which kicked things off and got the drawing underway. Then, something suddenly reminded me that my dear friend Jenny in Bimini was being interviewed on a blog talk radio show and I quickly turned it on to listen to (feeling the energy would be aligned) while completing the design. I thought I’d missed half of it, but I actually tuned in as the host was still warming the show up and was getting ready to introduce my friend.

What happened next was quite interesting. She began talking about Atlantis and the energies connected, as well as her remembrance of things near the end and she then apologized that she was starting to have throat issues and that it wasn’t a surprise given the energy she was talking about – no surprise to me either as Atlantis and Throat Chakra issues are quite common. She then actually had to take about two to three minutes to gather herself, as all you heard was her coughing like crazy in the background. I literally didn’t know if she was going to be able to continue the show, as it was some pretty serious coughing, which I’m quite familiar with.

During this, I was just continuing to draw away and had actually just been working on the Throat Chakra symbol and finalizing it. She was finally able to get herself through the coughing and came back on and managed the rest of the show without anymore coughs. She did bring mention to it again later, but her throat had stabilized.

I thought that was quite an interesting synchronicity, given what I was working on. But this synchronicity continued about 2-3 hours later. As I was getting ready for bed I suddenly was hit with a coughing attack. Now, I am quite familiar with this kind of cough, as for me, it is tied to something I ate that my body rejects and attacks like an allergy. I try to avoid these things, but sometimes like when eating out or if I’m more lax about it, it just happens. And I’m pretty good at knowing which things will do that. But last night I could not pinpoint what it could have been that I ate. So either it was something new starting to affect me like other foods, or it was simply energetic and tied into this design and the energy accessed.

Needless to say, I was wheezing and coughing like crazy for the next 45 minutes to an hour to the point of coughing up stuff and dry heaving – just like what normally happens with a food reaction.

It subsided after what sounded like me dying, lol, and I was able to peacefully get to sleep, only to wake in the middle of the night to the thought of this “throat connection.”

Empathic? Yes I am…or it was an energetic cleansing in my own throat chakra…or some may say it was just coincidentally a food reaction.

Whatever it was, the timing of it all was very interesting to say the least.

I find it so amazing what can symbolically be imbued into something that “appears” so simple.

At just under 3 inches all around, this design carries a pure, sweet energy that integrates simplicity and potency. The symbolism came to me as I was tuning in to my client and her desires. There had been some things my client was drawn to, but I did not feel that those images and symbols worked for her and her energy. I immediately shared what was coming to me and she instantly shared the synchronous connection she had to the images I was seeing and many stories about how what I’d felt would be good, were so perfectly connected to her life. She hadn’t realized this until I brought up the imagery.

So, we went with the inspiration that had channeled through and she trusted my choices, which ended up matching hers.

The design then came to include a Dove, three Cosmo Flowers, and the Throat Chakra symbol.

I created a Trinity of energy with the Cosmo flowers that not only create the energy of the Triple Goddess and the three phases of the Moon, but the number three is also the Empress card in Tarot – the archetype of feminine power, mother, healing, water energy, creation, creativity, abundance, intuition, emotions, passions, productive action, nurturing, love, harmony, union, sensuality, continual growth, all things beautiful and lush, and Mother Earth.

The three Cosmo flowers create a soft triangle, pyramid, or even a temple-like effect around the dove, illuminating and anchoring her energy. Cosmo Flowers symbolize peace and tranquility, as well as harmony, wholeness, love, order and modesty.

Triangles of course are also about creativity, clarity, a doorway to the extraordinary, higher wisdom (attained by balancing thought and emotion), magick, harmony, balance, ascension, manifestation, illumination, and one of my favorite words – integration (the alchemy of polarities combined that create a new opening). The peak at top symbolizes higher thought, inspiration, enlightenment, oneness of mind, aspiration, focus, and unity consciousness. In this way it helps you focus and center the inner conflicts in order to be in stillness of peace with the wholeness of who you are and within that peace to be guided by your authentic voice.

We had discussed the possibility of another flower added, but it felt like it was better to keep these all Cosmo Flowers in energy since they are like parts of her in different phases (pieces of the whole).

All of them being in full bloom holds the space of her wholeness as she integrates it and of her continually opening to all that she is. Since their name feels “Cosmic”, like the Cosmos, they can also be like stars..the shining aspects of her that she is allowing to emanate from within the vulnerability of her strength. That “Cosmic” essence also integrates the Divine with the now experience within Human “Being”.

The Dove symbolizes nurturing and is considered a symbol of motherhood actually, as well as maternal energy and instincts. Doves are associated with mother figures such as Mother Mary and symbolize care, devotion, purity, and peace, as well as promise, hope, and salvation. Not to mention of course love, grace, divinity, holiness, angelic presence, ascension, purification and are messengers. Aphrodite and Venus, both goddess mothers of love, are often shown with a dove symbolizing higher love that sees right into the heart of pure potential and views all things and everyone with the lenses of unconditional love.

Doves also have enchanting melodies that they vocalize, which would add to the sweetness of the words that come through her own voice in a gentle, loving and calm grace. This could be very powerful to have such a sweet presence and an actual beautiful and sweet melodious bird in this throat area. Doves are always symbolic of the end to a “war” or conflict, hence assisting in that inner turmoil she feels when expressing and communicating things.

The Dove’s wings are spread to ignite a greater ease, grace, flow, and freedom to be her most authentic self. I added subtle spirals on the inside of her feathers for flow.

And then the Throat Chakra symbol I overlayed on the body and tail of the dove in a way where they feel connected and integral to each other rather than just placed above, below, or not feeling a part of the piece. Both Dove and symbol are at center…to stabilize her in the core of who she is and to help her to return to her peaceful and harmonious center…a reminder. And sitting at the back of her neck/throat, it speaks to clarity and courage of creative self expression from this divine, graceful, gentle, peaceful center.

Emerging, Expanding, Evolving, Emanating…Sacred Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo DesignCreating this latest sacred tattoo design was another unique journey and it even called for its own music to support the channeling process, which had an enchanted and haunting quality to it.

What I also love about this one, as I find happens a lot, is that it was birthed on the New Moon and was percolating during Equinox, so it really signifies new beginnings all around.

The design is about 9 inches long from top to the bottom of the shaded rays, just under 5 ½ inches at the widest two points on either side, meant to cascade down the lower part of the neck and into the upper back, sitting over throat and higher heart chakras.

This design truly wanted to create something original and although it has a few universal symbolisms imbued in it, it really was weaving a personal symbol that was a template of energy just for my client. I love seeing the organic designs develop, as I follow the flow of the energy, creating a unique energy frequency and signature.

Elements that did show up are a cicada, subtle cat energy since it is my client’s animal spirit guide (hence the cat eyes in the cicada wings that adds a bit of mysterious quality, intensity to the softness, clarity, depth, shadow integration, and protection of “eyes behind your back”).

Cats have very keen vision as well as binocular vision where each eye works itself independently. This offers depth and balanced perception.

There is also a pentacle (five pointed star of the five elements) inside the cicada’s head, sitting on top of its crown chakra or in between the eyes as a third eye – symbolizing connection and integration of all things.

And there’s a heart in the bottom portion of its body with two halves coming together for that universal love and unity of two meeting to create one/wholeness.

The rest is a more organic development of the energy that started to take form at bottom creating a brilliancy of either sun or star energy emanating from the cicada (to illuminate and emanate one’s inner light) with three elegant points (three is integration, creativity, feminine energy, abundance, trinity energy) that elegantly draw energy down through the chakras at bottom and emanate out to east and west.

At top the energy is drawn up, but also flowing down. And what takes place in between feels to me as this source of centered energy within that is transmutating along the eternal journey.

The cicada was one of the first things that jumped out, feeling very powerful for my client…symbolizing metamorphosis/rebirth/renewal – shedding of skin, longevity, protection, timing, patience, strong communication, reward from patience and persistence, callings showing up later in life, self-expression: communication through music that inspires you to share your unique voice with the world and breaking free from the shadows/or your shell and expressing yourself authentically, partnership and working together, love, sensuality, and illumination.

The one thing I loved most about cicadas is that they choose their own time to be born. They can lay dormant a year or up to 17 years some times, before they emerge from their earthy cocoons. So it truly is about walking to the beat of your own drum and understanding the cycles/aligning with them in the way your intuition guides you, regardless of what others think.

I had this feeling of also wanting to create a hint of an amulet , which comes through above the cicada, but throughout as well. I wanted an essence of my client having her own magickal talisman with this piece and sacredness that she’d wear through life. There is a hint of a heart in this shape above the cicada with wing-like sides that show that true love is about freedom to be who you are and to love others for who they are. This also expresses my client’s “heart of gold”, as the design of it emulates a gold metal piece, but done more light and flowy.

Then we move up where there is a lotus like star that is organic and has the feel of movement to it, with a diamond at center with these almost winged petals wrapping gently around. And from it, these ethereal symbolisms started to evolve…be them violet flames, an emerging lotus blossom, spirit essence, a sacred temple of divine consciousness, her own inner Buddha essence, hands gracefully holding a seed of life at the top, the transmutation process of blossoming into more of her authenticity and personal frequency, or all of the above.

It’s a very ethereal image and yet emerges from this organic flow with a softness and femininity, yet balanced with a penetrating intensity, mystery, and depth. Everything evolving one into another and having a magickal effect, almost pixie dusted in places with the dots and floating petals, and radiating.

The piece in general carries the energy of miracles, depth, courage on the journey to continually challenge the self to greater heights, balance, magick, movement and flow, love, protection, sacredness, elegance, grace, ethereal power, bridge work (since each element is bridging one into another and connected throughout), courage to see and to be who you are, and ability to take in all perspectives and invent yourself anew.

These pieces are always meant to speak to the core of who we are..not what is on the surface, as I see people in their wholeness.

Transformational Empowerment Sacred Tattoo Design

Chad Sacred Tattoo Design

The energy of this latest sacred tattoo design feels appropriate for today’s Equinox energy and perhaps as you read through some of the symbolism it embodies, you’ll come to see why I feel it may be a good visual for the insights I shared about in today’s post about Autumn’s return: “Falling” Into the Grace of You – Welcome Autumn Equinox

The drawing is done to scale to fit on my client’s entire left forearm, to the measurements he provided me. The longest length and width both being 12 inches. He already has a full right forearm piece and this one would be an energetic counterpart to that, but also mirroring his current journey.

This design will wrap around the forearm, so the left and right sides were created to come together and match up with each other when they do meet. It is created to face the viewer as seen by someone who is looking at you when you extend your arm to them.

The longer 12 inch area at center where the crane is, is meant to be on the inner forearm and the rest will wrap around his arm, bringing the lion and elephant to the outer parts of it on top. The indented area at the wrist is to provide 2 inches of space on the top of the forearm, where he will later be creating hand pieces to extend into each of his arms, in order to provide room to flow those designs from the hands into the wrists.

The design has a flowing energy that is a blend of divine male and female in the aspects depicted. My client’s right arm energy symbolism feels much more masculine, so I wanted to create a nice, softening balance to that on his left arm, which does represent the more divine feminine qualities within each of us. However, still keeping it strong and interlacing a lot of sacred geometry as well, which is that divine male aspect. This left forearm is meant to show a bit of his inner/vulnerable/intuitive/magickal elements, but in a very empowering way – strength in vulnerability.

It also interweaves soul elements, symbols that are part of his journey, animal spirit guides, elements that support him into his wholeness, symbols he’s worked with in the past, the transformative energy taking place in his life, and the eternal expansiveness and beauty of his unique soul.

He only provided me two elements he really wanted to be a part of the design, which are the lion and elephant. The rest was up to me to intuit together.

The piece was quite the journey to create and a lot of intricacy to layer and weave just right, as I had quite a large canvas to work with, which helps AND also adds to the balance needing to be worked into each part of the story unfolding.

These are the symbols/images that showed up along with some symbolism included. Everything weaves one into another:

  • Top right corner – lion: a solar animal of wisdom, strength, personal power, assertiveness, loyalty, majesty, courage, dignity, justice, balance in relationships and emotions, the alchemy of gold
  • Butterfly emerging from the lion – butterfly symbolizes transformation, celebration, transition, lightness, soul, time, grace, elegance, freedom, joy and bliss, miracles, flexibility, cycles of life, creativity, gentleness, preciousness of life, as well as the clarity of mind needed before self-transformation and the ability of the soul to embrace it
  • At center top – merkaba – “Mer” means Light. “Ka” means Spirit. “Ba” means Body. Mer-Ka-Ba means the spirit/body surrounded by counter-rotating fields of light, (wheels within wheels), spirals of energy as in DNA, which transports spirit/body from one dimension to another.
  • An hour glass with sands sifting through that merges with the lion’s mane/energy and stems from the cherry blossom tree below it – hourglass represents time, cycles, nature, balance, transience, inevitability, temporal, transitions, one half is the sky – other is the earth – creating integration of the material and ethereal
  • Cherry blossoms throughout on left and right from the growing branches of the cherry blossom trees rooted from below at wrist and expanding/growing up – The breathtaking but brief beauty of the cherry blossoms, according to Buddhist tradition, symbolizes the transient nature of life. They also reflect, in traditional Japanese values, that of purity and simplicity. The cherry blossom is also tied with the samurai culture, representing the fleeting nature of the samurai’s life and symbolic of drops of blood. They also represent the arrival of Spring, end of Winter, end of difficult/challenging periods, joy, beauty, freshness, new generation, life cycle, beauty and sexuality, love in a language of herbs, promise of fruit to come – fruits of your labor revealing in abundance.
  • Crane at center with sort of watery design around – crane represents balance, grace, longevity, success, royalty, using your past as a source of strength in the present, protection, quiet wisdom, peace with the inward journey and with solitude
  • Torus-like, sacred flower at center by crane – cosmic and life flow
  • A lot of energy flows that keep things fluid throughout, alive, and also soften the energy, as well as provide an organic balance to the sacred geometry
  • Temple-like feel to the center around crane
  • Koi fish swimming upstream in the upper left – koi symbolize good luck and fortune, prosperity, courage, ambition, aspirations to improve oneself and grow/evolve, strength, perseverance through difficult situations, aspiring to great heights – legend has it that koi climb the falls of the Yellow River to become a dragon – the koi is swimming toward the merkaba and butterfly, signifying this spiritual rebirth and transformation into wholeness my client is journeying into
  • Elephant that has a hint of Ganesh – I wanted to keep a realism to the elephant like with everything else, as well as movement, fluidity, and power with the ears flowing in the wind which creates this majesty, but does wear some signifying elements to denote Ganesh, including its eyes – elephant symbolism: determination, loyalty, honor, social connection, highly attuned sensitivity, stability, patience, strength, sovereignty, longevity, happiness, good fortune, power. Ganesh – protection, effortless clearing of obstacles, total acceptance, wisdom, knowledge, the energy from which everything manifests and into which everything dissolves
  • Above elephant – Buddha in the cherry blossom tree with spiral at third eye
  • Top left – nautilus-like spiral spinning and merging with the mane of the lion and from which all around it spins into creation from
  • To left of elephant the center of a flower of life – seed of life (split because it will come together when wrapped around arm)

Rewriting the Sacred Relationship to Self with a Sacred Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo DesignThere are so many beautiful souls I have the honor of collaborating with and so many connections I am able to rekindle through this soulful work of sacred tattoo designing. Being an eclectic, cosmic pilgrim, I have deep gratitude for the opportunity to journey to the far corners of the Earth, Cosmos, and depths of soul with this process.

I am grateful for the experience of knowing each person through this process of working intimately with soul essence and am humbled to be able to create designs that I hope reflect the unique beauty of each soul in the collective tapestry of life. My hope is always that when each person gazes upon their designs, that they will see and be reminded of their unified essence. And when they wear them, that they will feel greater embodiment of that truth.

The best part and reward for me is when I hear and feel how the designs affect each person they are created for.

Sometimes my clients have specifics they are interested in incorporating, other times not, and sometimes a mix of both, but always how the vision evolves and channels through, is where the journey lies. And that process is where the magick is in the way things are drawn, integrated together, and even the new things that reveal themselves that were not mentioned,

This piece merged from themes shared and not shared. The “not” shared  themes were revealed later upon my client viewing what had manifested and then recognizing the truths that had channeled through, which were forgotten and now remembered. I love that.

For example, after creating the piece I learned my client is the astrological sign of Cancer, as well as had connections with Artemis/Hecate, which are just some of the surprises that energetically came through.

All of which are expressions of her strengths and the energy she has available in her well of inner gifts to draw from.

As always, this is another very layered piece in symbolism that is a Divine Feminine tapestry of depth and integration on many levels – encompassing self empowerment, healing, abundance, nurturing, joy, inner radiance, strength, and guidance, love, protection, magick, ancient Celtic roots, coming to a transformational crossroads in life, and more – all seeming to be pointing to a theme of there being strength in vulnerability.

It feels to be rewriting the relationship within and supporting the soul expressions that will be transformatively healing when released to shine through.

Some of the messages are speaking through these:

The Feminine Archetype that is of many layers including Earth Mother, angel, priestess, goddess (I was getting hints of the strength of Greek Goddesses Artemis and Hecate wanting subtly through in this depiction, as well as the nurturing compassion of Mother Mary), guardian of nature, weaver of magick – essences that are around my client, but also within her…reflecting a piece of her soul’s focus.

She wears a feathered headdress that represents freedom and higher consciousness, with roses at center that mirror a heart shape to emanate universal love that is a harmony of heart and mind, and twigs at each side to connect with the Earth and ancient tree wisdom.

Her wings fold lovingly and supportively around the tapestry of her work and loves, embracing my client, embracing the mysteries of life, and embracing Earth herself.

She wears a robe with cascading sleeve of ocean energy with waves and spirals of water merging from the Nautilus shell (that emerges/AND merges with the inside of her wing. The Nautilus’ integrated chambers are symbolic of continuous progress, balance, new ideas, visionary discoveries, innovation and inspiration, renewal, eternal continuity, expansion, consistency, evolution, interconnectedness, divine perfection, natural flow, stability and internal harmony within regeneration, abundant creative energy – in general, a symbol of life and “the journey home” to Source within All That Is, through a succession of transcendent spirals.

The waves of ocean energy and spirals flow into the celtic knot/triquetra symbol at the bottom of her sleeve, anchoring the whole design and drawing energy down into the earth and integrating into the physical. The upside down triangle shaping to be that of the feminine energy as well. Circular knots symbolize cycles of life/eternity/interconnedtedness. The triquetra is the energy of the trinity and supports integration, balance, and freedom.

In the sleeve, floating in the waves and spirals of the water energy there is “anam cara”. Something that was important to my client to have in this piece and actually what connected her to me. In essence, Anam Cara is that uniting of inner and outer within yourself in the temple of your sacred “you” home, that then bonds with the energies of others on that same level you have attained in beauty and love with yourself. So to have it written on “your sleeve” so to speak, is to acknowledge that sacred union and partnership you have with yourself and that you are sharing in joy with the collective. Anam Cara essence emanating from shining and sharing your inner light and beauty in all of its glory. You can read more on how the energy of Anam Cara  unfolds from within our sacred relationship to self and then without in bonding relationship and connection to others here: Anam Cara

At her heart chakra is a Celtic Crescent Moon with two Celtic infinity symbols and a triangle inside of it. It is woven between the ringlets of curls in her hair and rests on the waves of the ocean at right, symbolizing a depth of feelings, expansive and healing illumination of what is deep within being brought to surface, and the nurturing qualities cradled in the heart. The Moon is considered a luminary, although produces no light of her own. She reflects the Sun’s light, which mirrors her image to us. In this way of projecting light, she symbolizes the subtlety of how we may gain clarity and indirectly receive insight, and how we can soften our gaze to access esoteric meaning. The Moon also symbolizes cycles, the shadow, mystery, wonder, balance, renewal, time, emotions, the subconscious, intuition, fertility, femininity, transition, passivity, perception, receptivity, the night, nocturnal creatures, illumination…She is connected to the element of Water (mother of all sea creatures as well) and is ruled by the sign of Cancer. Alchemical teachings share that the Moon is connected to Silver, which carries the symbolism of clarity, purity and brilliance that the Moon so beautifully exudes. Since Silver is one of the 3 metals that are the foundation of the Prima Materia, this makes the Moon part of the Trinity of transformation. She is also associated with Kuan Yin, the Virgin Mary, Thoth, Diana, Artemis, and Hecate, to name a few of her archetype associations.

At the top of this design, drawing the energy up and bring energy down simultaneously, is another Celtic heart knot with triquetra/trinity symbolism and then more knots/triquetras at the side, with maple leaves at end. Maple leaves serve as a love symbol, as they depict the sweetness and wonder of love in everyday life.

Hovering above her gentle, outstretched hand (that gives as gracefully as receives) the magick that emerges are two blossoms of daffodils. Daffodils are symbols of rebirth, new beginnings, good fortune and luck (you never want to have or give just one as it is said this will not bring good fortune, but more than one is fortuitous), ray of hope and light ahead, assists in reminding you to be in your heart and not let ego lead you, purity, the sun always shining down upon you, and joy. These add the energy of sensitivity, sweetness, tenderness, and gentleness, as well as connection to the Earth Mother and Nature.

And rising from below, just brushing her hand, is an ethereal moth that is bringing “to light” the things that are hidden. Moths are so magickal and they have powerful meaning that takes us to our depths. They symbolize dreams, shadows, otherworldliness, secret knowledge, psychic awareness, strength in vulnerability, determination, subtlety, intuition and faith. They help you to navigate through the darkest hours in your life, to embrace the shadow, provide healthy balance and integration, and assist you in trusting your inner knowing that is guided by the power of the Moon.

Let your heart be guided by the messages and energy speaking through the design to you. These designs open portals of energy for the person who will be wearing it and for the people who may see it.

Divine Mother & Creator “Web of Life” Mandala – Sacred Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo Design

I was so excited and grateful to work on this sacred tattoo design in between my journeys to Bimini and Alaska. I finished it right before leaving on my current vacation actually – a great send off!

I always marvel at the timing of designs and how they are always infused by all that is going on individually with my clients, me personally, and the collective energy at large.

This design also spoke loudly to a personal Mandala wanting to channel through, although this one will be worn over my beautiful client’s Heart Chakra on her back.

I find myself continuing to stare at it and being drawn in deeper with its layered motion. It feels so alive and fluid with movement and really powerful, yet in a divine feminine way. And it’s no wonder, as my client so beautifully walks in this energy.

I keep seeing more in it as I look at it and I’m sure many of you will too.

This wove itself into a Divine Mother and Creator Mandala, but rich with layers of symbolism and a little Celtic flair.

Here’s a little bit about what is in the design:

I wanted it to have an organic and vibrantly alive feeling, even though sacred geometry speaks through as well with the Mandala, as if it is fluid, moving, emanating, creating and weaving itself – soft and feminine, yet strong and powerful.

At center is the Triskelion. It felt important and so beautifully created the focal center, anchoring point to the design flow.

I love the multi-layered symbolism in this symbol, which provides depth to the design, but ultimately reflecting the depth of my client.

Its symbolism includes: action, cycles, progress, revolution, moving forward, spirit – mind – body, mother – father – child,  father – son – holy ghost, past – present – future, power – intellect – love, creator – destroyer – sustainer, creation – preservation – destruction, the otherworld – the mortal world – the celestial world, the trinity,  mystery, feminine, intuition, subtleness, subconscious, spirituality, illumination, hidden desire, personal growth, human development, and spiritual expansion.

During the process I kept getting a lot around the number three and that Trinity energy for her, which you also see in the Triple Motherhood Knot that were woven in, in three areas. These are the three heart entwined symbols bottom, left and right. It’s stylized to symbolize a parent and child embracing to convey the enduring bond between them. This symbol looks like 2 hearts created out of knots – one lower than the other but intertwined eternally. And my client truly is the epitome of that loving mothering energy that is not only so important to her, but truly is her strength and gift to share in service, in and out of the home.

The number three also speaks of the Triple Goddess and Maiden, Mother, Crone energy. This felt significant and honoring, not just for aspects of her and the cycles in her life that they represent, but also represent her and the two women dear in her life that have recently transitioned – her great aunt and grandmother.

Three also from Tarot, is the Empress card, which really spoke to me for my client with her symbolism of the archetype of feminine power, mother, healing, water energy, creation, creativity, abundance, fruitfulness, fertility, intuition, emotions, passions, prosperity, productive action, nurturing, love, harmony, union, sensuality, continual growth, all things beautiful and lush, and Mother Earth.

Then the number six also came through, which you see in the white parts of the design.

But first let’s back up. There is an organic lotus underneath the layered design, that peaks through the other parts. And layered over it is a stylized Tree of Life that reaches above and below in mirror with its limbs and branches, as well as extend out and around to create a six petaled temple-like design that draws the limbs together at the top of each sacred temple.

The number six is also significant and felt meaningful for her. It represents harmony, balance, soulful integration, perfect union, communication, sincerity, love, truth, enlightenment, naturally revealing solutions for us in a calm, unfolding manner, delicate diplomacy in sensitive matters, reliability, lighting our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance, and encourages compassion and forgiveness. It is connected with the very powerful Hexagon and Merkaba.

There is then an interlaced eight pointed Octagonal flower that weaves through the petals of the lotus and the limbs/temples of the tree. The symbolism of eight has to do with continuation, repetition, cycles, inner strength, patience, wisdom, gentle power, faith in your abilities, courage, protection, energy, vitality, good health, healing, empowerment, endurance, success, manifestation, prosperity, balances material and spiritual worlds. Octagons symbolize regeneration, totality, infinity, rebirth, transition, and are considered good luck for the Chinese. It represents a Bagua, which is a Feng Shui tool for flow of Chi, but also represents the constantly changing forces and natural phenomena of the Universe as described in the I-Ching.

I then carried through more spirals to frame each of the six points and tie in with the Triskelion at center, but also to move the energy in all directions and keep it fluid, while also balancing masculine points with feminine curves.

The Lotus itself is a powerful and ancient image symbolizes harmony, spiritual illumination and unlimited potential. The lotus is a type of water lily which rises from the sludge of muddy waters and opens into a beautiful flower. It is often used as a mandala, or circular symbol, but any way you use the Lotus in a spiritual practice, it will provide a resonant field that reinforces the concept of resurrection. Human mistakes and challenges are the fertilizer for brilliance and awakened creation as the Lotus shows us. Born in the murkiest of ponds, Lotus still emerges pure. Use the Lotus as a reminder that “this, too, shall pass.” Be assured that all fertilizer nurtures a beautiful new life. In the greater world, Lotus is a peaceful cosmic beacon for forgiveness, gratitude and compassion to prevail where the sludge of conflict has resided. Using this symbol on water invites a balance between humility and pride.

The Tree of Life captures the essence of Celtic belief in the interconnectedness of all things – earth and sky, plants, animals and all beings – in the cycle of life. This Tree of Life depicts a tree, leaves opening in the new Spiral cycles of life into eternal journeys that lead to abundant of heart expansion in the process. The trees roots grounding in the earth and the limbs reaching in different directions of where the path will lead on the continuous journey of enlightened awareness. These roots grounding you with the Earth and the relationships and aspects of life you hold dear, keeping you balanced, as well as nurtured in giving and receiving.

I curved some of the inner branches for a feminine flow, also to double as the center of the Lotus, and to create a hint of loose, open heart shapes – the source of love in giving and receiving.

There is an abstract suggestion of almost a Spider-like quality to these limbs, which I noticed after the design was done. I found this very interesting, as I began the channeling by asking my client’s Animal Spirit Guide – the Spider –  to help guide me in weaving this creation for her.

The Spider symbolizes strong feminine energy, creativity, life spirit, weaver of destiny, patience, receptivity, tuning into life’s ebbs and flows, integrating shadow self, spirit of creation, and in many traditions is the totem symbol of the Mother. For example, in Ancient Egypt the Spider represents the Goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith and in some Native American Indian tribes she is the symbol for the Creator of the World.

And so I see this as the “web of life” that my client is weaving from the source of her heart and soul. It feels that the Spider has guided this creation and that this is her Magickal Web Mandala of all things dear to my client, all things to support her, and all things that she will continue to weave, create, share, nurture, and contribute through the love of her heart.
