Transmutational Empowerment ~ Ancient Symbolism Weaving a Sacred Tattoo Design

Edward Sacred Tattoo Design

With such a full schedule in the last few months, I’ve been quite back-logged on work and even posting work. So much so, the Universe even supported me in providing time while on my way to Peru to work on a design when it had me missing my flight (more on that with my upcoming trip share). I somehow knew on some level, as I had brought my work along with me – something I never do. ;)

As I settle back in, I’m getting caught up on things now and able to share some of the pieces. I’m so grateful to all of my clients who have been in flow with timing on things and for your patience. It truly always IS in Divine order and without the rushing, makes for some really lovely aligned channeling.

Today’s share, a piece I did a while back, is for one of my male clients where we were creating a piece to sit at the top, back portion of lower neck and upper back. Egyptian energy was abound, infused with a little stylized Native American Indian symbolism and Sacred Geometry.

What came through was more of a powerful emanation, if that makes sense. He has a strong energy and that is definitely the essence in the symbolism involved, but I felt that we could radiate the energy so that it softens a bit…since he mentioned how people seem threatened by his rougher appearance and was wanting to shift that

So while this symbolism is powerful, it is also feels like a balance of Divine and Sacred Male and Female with some harder lines and sharper edges, including sacred geometry, mixed also with circular flow and pulsating from within energy.

I also got that “less is more” for him, as it didn’t feel right to keep layering a bunch of things and symbolism in excess. He/the design sort of speak for themselves and create a portal that draws you in, as well as is a portal for creation, transformation, focus, clarity, balance, creativity, awakening, flow…

The design is 9 ½” length and 6” at the widest point. The way it’s created, it leaves room and ability to add on to more back pieces that can integrate with it easily with the softer edges.

The design includes a giant Ankh at center that everything stems from and is integrated into, but it is stylized and at top the Flower of Life, with Scarab holding the Flower of Life energy, just like it usually holds the Sun disk (and there is still that hint of design that doubles in the Flower of Life/Sun energy here. The Scarab’s wings are in full expansion, creating a flame-like quality that is lighting the Cosmic essence within, integrated with the flesh and body.

It then emanates out and creates the Web of Life holding everything within the two arms of the Ankh that merge into a Dream Catcher.

The idea is that the top would sit at the top center of his upper back, with the point/top of Ankh and Flower of Life stretching slightly/flowing up into the very bottom portion of the neck/throat chakra. The rest would flow down over the higher heart and drawing energy to the heart.

Energy is also moving both up and down, left and right.

Here is some information on some of the universal symbolism, which I’ve shared before:

Scarab:  Beetles symbolize progress, simplicity, persistence, stability, methodical, contemplative, practical, grounded, potential, security, protection, solidarity energy. They move with bellies always close to the earth, and so their wisdom is sacred and deep. They are connected to the core of earth, and so they are rooted in their knowledge about the way of life and nature. Beetles also talk to us about steady, gradual progress.  Observing them, they do nothing without pragmatic, methodical movement. Beetles also remind us of the simple things in life, and point our attention to the magic in the small.  Beetles can tame us because of their simple, unassuming presence. The symbolic meaning of beetles in countless cultures, also offers protection.  Their own hard shells do more than just convey glimmering beauty – they protect.

Beetles impart messages such as:

“Get to the root of your desire”

“Be practical in your expectations of progress”

“Find stability in simplicity”

“Anchor yourself in honest, true, natural ways”

“Allow yourself to be tamed by the small and gentle.”

“Scarabs are a symbol of resurrection/rebirth, transformation and protection. This is especially true in Egypt, where symbols were much more than simple drawings, they were reminders of men’s true nature – the spiritual life.

It is clear that the symbolism of the scarab refers to transformation – the transformation of the soul from physical to non-physical, from ignorant of its nature to wise. Egyptian represented the concept of immortality and resurrection (resurrection of the soul, not the flesh) through the image of the scarab beetle, and therefore, they created seals, amulets and talismans, which served as tools to inform those who carried them about these concepts.

It is important to point out that the real “power” of the talismans and amulets was never the object itself, but rather, the knowledge it contained. A person who is imbued with the spirit of immortality and transformation does not fear death (or fear itself). Since fear is one of things that prevent people from achieving their ideals, those who do not fear are the ones who make history, so it is the knowledge that protects, the amulets and talismans are mere instruments through which the knowledge is revealed.

Egyptians observed how the young scarabs emerge from a ball of dung until mysteriously, the scarab becomes aware of a pair of wings which had always been there, and they courageously fly away to explore life outside the dung. When they discover they have wings they then fly away towards their true nature… The Egyptian tradition taught that everything that happens in nature is a microcosm of universal truths, like imprints of the divine reflected in the physical world; therefore, they used the natural phenomena to understand spiritual phenomena.

The brief life of the scarab, then, reveals a beautiful message – just like the scarab beetle lives among the feces until it discovers its hidden wings. The human soul is also trapped in the physical world (symbolized by the dung ball) until it discovers its ability to fly.

Rebirth is symbolized in this moment in which the scarab finally abandons the dung ball to be born in another reality and into its true essence. Egyptian scarabs are all about building our best, most incredible opportunities from the “poop” around us. The sun was a big deal to ancient Egyptians, with the ability to yield bumper crops, or bear down so brightly as to blight growth entirely. Scarabs utilize the power of the sun by rolling up their eggs in mud or dung. The hot sun bakes the little mud balls – essentially incubating their eggs. Pretty resourceful way to hatch babies. The Egyptian scarab also specifically represents luck in the form of solar power. And so, not only is the scarab lucky because of its own ingenuity, it’s also symbolic of rebirthing into a new dawn of life.

The scarab beetle was also associated to god Khepri, who was regarded as an aspect of the sun god Ra. Sun gods embody the role of the sun in a solar system; like the sun, which makes all the flowers in the planet blossom, sun gods make all wisdom emerge among humans in periods of intellectual darkness (they are considered humans who have reached the human ideal through many incarnations).” – Excerpts from The Symbolic Meaning of the Scarab Beetle – Egyptian Symbolism by Thais Campos

And ANKH: The deeper we look into Nature, the more we come to the realization that there is an invisible life force which permeates all realms of creation. This mysterious life force, or Key of Life, was acknowledged, honored and respected by the Ancient Egyptians and was depicted in their artwork and hieroglyphs by way of the Symbol of the Ankh.

The Ankh, which  represents the eternal process of creating, consists of a T-Shaped Cross surmounted by a Loop.

The T-Shaped Cross Symbolizes the masculine active Seed. The Loop Symbolizes the feminine receptive Womb.

These two principles, when united, bring forth creation, birth and Events throughout all of the seen and unseen realms of the universe.

The “T”, as the the masculine aspect of creation, is similar to the Symbolism of the Tau cross, the double-headed Axe and the hammer of Thor. All of these Symbols contain Three extremities. Three is the first masculine number. Three also represents the Trinity of Creation.

The Loop, as the feminine aspect of creation, is Symbolic of the birth passageway from which all created, or manifested, life emerges.

When the Tau Cross and the Loop are combined they form the image of a key; a key which the Egyptian Neters, the Divine Principles of Nature, hold in their hands.

The Ankh, or Key of Life, therefore Symbolizes the eternal process of continual creation and perpetual manifestation by way of the union of masculine and feminine aspects of Divinity.

In this respect the Ankh is the Breath of Life, the Hermetic Logos and the Aether of the Alchemists which instills life (the soul), into all living matter. Therefore it also represents the Spiritual DNA which stands forever ready to manifest life  throughout all of the visible and invisible realms of the cosmos.

This ever-present and ever-active life force, Symbolized by the Ankh, is eternally and perpetually alive and available throughout all realms of the cosmos. It is a Power which exists whether or not mental or physical “life” is currently being manifested at any specific point in the universe.

In Egyptian artwork we often see one of the Neters holding the Ankh to the nostrils of a person. This gesture, on behalf of a specific Neter, is the bestowing of the “breath of life” to that particular person. This is Symbolic of the “breath of life”, or soul, which enters into our body at birth and which will eventually leave our body when our Current Incarnation comes to its end.

We also see artwork of Neters gazing into Mirrors which are in the shape of the Ankh through which they can view the reflections, results and Consequences of the persons, places, things and Events into which they have temporarily instilled the “breath of life”.

Egyptian men and women wore amulets in the shape of the Ankh in honor of this Divine Creative Process and also to serve as a reminder to be cautious of the Consequences which can result from Thoughts, deeds, Words and Actions which they are responsible for “giving life to”.

Dream Catcher: The dream catcher can also be a medicine wheel and with specific intention, with all the parts of the dream catcher having meaning.  To begin, the web represent the spider forever repairing the eternal web of life.  Thus weaving your life dreams and energy in the universe when you dream.  The ring represents the earth mother and the humble walk we do upon her. As we believe that we are related to all things and that all things are part of us then the Dream Catcher and medicine wheel is a representation of such sacred belief. The ring and the woven web represent love, honesty and purity.  All of the elements of the dream catcher together represent the earth, fire and water. Things we need to live. It represents the ability to be love and to love, to take the risk and get out of the nest and fly on your own, the ability to live beyond your shadows. The web is from the spider whose web represents the cycles of life – in each time of life there are many forces that can help or can interfere with the harmony of Nature. The web is a perfect circle with a hole in the center, to be used to help yourself and others reach their goals, making good use of their ideas, dreams and visions. If you believe in the Great Spirit, the web will filter your good ideas and the bad ones will be trapped and will not pass. The legend of the Dream Catcher is that it captures the bad Spirits and filters them. Protecting us from evil and letting through only the good dreams.  It is believed that each carefully woven web will catch bad spirit dreams in the web and disappear by perishing with the first light of the morning sun. The good spirit dreams will find their way to the center and float down the sacred feather. Dream Catchers are believed to bless the “sleeping ones” with pleasant dreams, good luck, and harmony throughout their lives. It is how lessons  were remembered and where visions were received. It is said that when you get a good night sleep you can remember when the spirit has talked to you.

Flower of Life: a sacred geometry symbol embodying ancient fundamental essences of space and time, the life connection woven through all sentient beings, and the foundations of all living things – a template from which all life springs.

The Miracle of Life ~ Sacred Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo DesignThis design was such a joy to create and the timing on its channeled creation was also quite beautiful when it took place. As always, it’s so fun to see what is going to come through as I experience each piece creating itself in the moment. This happens by allowing the energy flow to carry me along the journey, rather than dictating it.

There were a few main elements my amazing client wanted me to incorporate (and she included some things she really resonated with as possible choices), but she was open to the way it would unfold, which is always such a blessing to the process.

I interpreted things in a somewhat whimsical, but sacred, empowered feminine way, and found additional elements making themselves known as things unraveled.

Included in this design you’ll find a sparrow, my version of a tree of life, butterflies, Tibetan Fire Serpent Reiki symbol, a seven pointed star, sacred geometry, DNA, flower of life, spirals, hearts, feather, diamond star, and my version of old-fashioned bleeding hearts (heart shaped blossoms on trailing stems with single dangling pendulous drops). There is even the hint of snake energy in the way the tree branches and trunk curve and flow – an element she was drawn to, if it worked itself in.

Here is the description I shared with my client that helps tell the story of this design and how to find all the hidden elements:

It may be hard to follow, but if you look closely you’ll see that the root of the tree begins at an upward spiral at the bottom that roots, anchors, and grounds “below”, to the right of the large flower of life within a blossoming sun/lotus. It curves up and around to a larger area of the trunk that then is home to the DNA strand at its core (the life giving uniqueness from which all is birthing). And then from this trunk three branches emerge.

One branch goes to the left and curves into a downward spiral. Another branch goes up to the right of the sparrow with a lower portion of it flowing into a downward spiral and then branching from there this stem separates into two stems that curve to create a natural heart shape.

Then there is a larger branch of the main trunk that goes to the left of the sparrow and curves around and up, ending at what almost appears to be a hand that is openly cupping “above” what is to come from Source, with a spiral thumb – always ready to embrace and receive enlightenment, new awareness, expansion, evolution.

Within the tree there are spirals and energy throughout, keeping everything fluid and in flowing motion.

The sparrow sweetly, gracefully, and peacefully sits in harmony, the Tibetan Fire Serpent flowing in balance down its resting wings, at center of its back, both anchoring/grounding as well as drawing energy up and balancing. In the tufts of its under belly there is a Seven Pointed Star (or Faery Star/Pleiadian Star):

One of the entrances to the Other Side. By following the seven steps of transformation on the ladder of the visible planets (metals), the symbol joins us with the Whole Universe, bestowing personal spiritual transformation. Also known as the Pleiadian Star or Faery Star, the 7 pointed star is one of the entrances to the spirit realm – the gateway to the Otherworld. Each point on the star represents a pathway, or the 7 rays of manifestation of the Higher Self, as follows: *1st point – Power, Personal Will and Determination. *2nd point – Unconditional Love, Wisdom and Growth. *3rd point – Knowledge and Intelligence. *4th point – Harmony and Tranquility. *5th point – the Powers of Mind and Science. *6th point – Devotion and Honesty. *7th point – Magick. The points blend with each other, nurturing and joining us as one with the Universe, bestowing personal and spiritual transformation.

The sparrow is facing/looking with soft gaze at the heart shaped branch and in between where its beak points, is a spark of life in sacred geometry blossoming in alchemical energy…creating the ability to see with clarity, bring forth your creative self expression, give and receive love and even draw in love/partner from a place of truth and pure purpose.

Sparrows symbolize joy, creativity, simplicity, protection, community, productivity, vigilance, and speaks of higher thoughts and ideals. They teach us to think outside the box, are masters of flight (freedom), share with us the need to keep burdens light so we can avoid a heavy heart, and that there is spiritual abundance always around us.

I found this in looking at sparrow symbolism that I thought you might enjoy – a hymn “His Eyes are on the Sparrow” – Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart be lonely when I know with Source I am One? I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, The Eye of Source is on the Sparrow, I know Source watches over me.”

There are three butterflies – three is the symbol of creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow. When I created three butterflies I didn’t realize that they also could double as symbolism for your three children, that are so dear to you. I love the hidden surprises that reveal themselves later.

Butterfly medicine symbolizes transformation, celebration, transition, lightness, soul, time, grace, elegance, freedom, joy and bliss, miracles, flexibility, cycles of life, creativity, gentleness, preciousness of life, as well as the medicine the ability and clarity of mind needed before self-transformation.

The spirals throughout symbolize creation, movement, fluidity, surrender/releasing, holistic growth, and awareness of the one within the context of the whole. It reveals the cyclical nature of life, the consciousness of nature from core center expanding outward, and the relationship between unity and multiplicity. It is the limitless spirals that move both “inward towards the Source of creation and eternally outward with Source’s continual self-creation.” In this way, the spiral reflects the contiguous journey home to who you really are and the journey to be one with Source.

The whole piece is very feminine in its graceful flow, not only creating sort of an “s” shape, but also hints at an Infinity symbol if you follow the flow of the entire design, as well.

I included two Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart vines in a whimsical design that to me not only are like hearts with a pendulous drop below, but feel like key holes which can be unlocked to access what you desire…new doorways of experience. These plants bloom in the cool of spring and into early summer – new life and blossoming creative energy.

Two is the energy of balance, duality, kindness, equalization, diversity, stability, reflection, choice, exchanges with others, partnerships, communication, desire, and asks us to exert our natural flow of judgment to do what is best for our souls. In alchemy, two are the opposites – like Sun and Moon, King and Queen, Sacred Male and Female, and also are like the Twin Flame aspect within yourself.

There are seven blossoms visible. Seven deals with magickal forces like three, the search for esoteric meaning, activation of imagination, manifesting results in our lives, and use of conscious thought and awareness. It is a very spiritual number that represents our spiritual journey, connection to Source, alchemy, ascending, completeness, perfection…

There is a feather that I placed, gracefully floating, seeming to come from the sparrow’s tail to where it points. Feathers represent flight, freedom, ascension, lightness, grace, ability to flow with winds of change, truth, speed, communication with Spirit, celestial wisdom, the power of the element air. Here, accompanied by the butterflies and surrounded with heart blossoms and heart petals, it is a reminder to release the heaviness from our hearts, to be gentle with ourselves, nurture our innocent inner child, dance with grace through change, embrace vulnerability, and be willing to flow without attachments that hinder our expansiveness.

I created a burst of nine heart shaped petals or leaves at the bottom that are emerging from the root of the tree…rooting the loving connection you share with Mother Earth, your ability to create from the source of this grounded love and connection with the rhythm of nature, and to represent the balance needed of also going deep, not just reaching up. There are nine of these. Nine representing attainment, accomplishment, the end of a cycle before a new one begins, contentment, the inner journey, inventiveness, drawing from our inner resources, gifts, and abilities to bring them out into the world for service, spiritual enlightenment, spiritual awakening, humanitarianism, destiny, soul purpose/mission, inner strength, intuition, inner wisdom, freedom, visionary mysticism, and strength of character.

I created the large flower of life to the left as the source of what is birthing and cradled it in an unfurling/blossoming lotus with petals that almost create the flames of the sun (inner illumination and clarity). This flower of life balances the star-like rendition of one at the top right, so that there is always an equality in working “As Above, So Below” and never forgetting parts of ourselves or over-developing one aspect over another.

And where a spiral tree root and blossoming heart petals birth and journey forth below, a simple diamond star at the top, brings crystalline clarity and wisdom that transcends into limitlessness and is the essence inclusive of and beyond light and dark.

Sacred Tattoo Designs: Now Booking for March PLUS Details on the Process

Spiritual Skin CoverI want to thank all of my clients for such a deepening year of powerful “Spiritual Skin” symbolism we co-created in 2014. I sense 2015 is going to continue in the vein of empowering depth from what I can feel from the souls being drawn to this sacred art and from what I am “seeing/feeling” from these creative visions awaiting manifestation.

Many people have been contacting me to find out what my timing is looking like for new designs, so I thought I would share that.

As you know there is a waiting list on sacred tattoo designs and with my current clients I’m now booked until early March.

However, being that I will be away nearly 2 weeks in both February and March, I will only be able to take a few clients (maybe 2 – 3) for March and then we’ll be looking at booking for April.

Sometimes the scheduling shifts a bit, as clients aren’t always ready when I get to them, in which case I let the person know that is next in line and continue forward, taking the client that needed extra time when they are ready, and after I’ve completed work on the current design at hand.

Now and then I receive emails that lead me to feel there might be some confusion on some of the aspects of this process, which I’d like to help clarify.

  • Remember that if you are interested in co-creating a tattoo design with me, you will need to place a deposit at the link here: http://spiritualskin.com/lifechangingtattoos.html
  • This will place you on the waiting list. At the link you will also find details on the process and likely answers to many of your questions. If you find anything not to be clear, or you would like assistance in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me and ask.
  • I’m more than happy to answer questions about the process and to generally provide an oversight in regard to what you would like to create, but please understand that I can’t provide lengthy consulting about ideas, or help to come up with the idea, unless you have commissioned me to work on your design with you and I’m ready to begin that process, as that is part of the whole design consulting journey we embark upon. It is a very involved process on my part that goes beyond even the email exchanges that I have to tune into, research, etc. I do welcome you to send me all of your thoughts and ideas before the time we actually will be working on it, so the energy is percolating in the background and we can pinpoint some of the important aspects that give me an idea of the groundwork in terms of size, placement, and essence of what you desire. The time leading up to actual designing is for this preparation, and once I am ready to begin, I can delve more in depth.
  • My saying that I’m available to new clients in March does not mean that if you contact me in March that I will be able to start right away on your design, as in the interim other clients will have placed their deposits for their commissioned pieces.
  • If you absolutely need the design before the available time period, I do offer rush jobs in order to meet certain time-frames. Please contact me to discuss details and to see if I’m capable of working off-hours to assist that, which would equate to a higher rate fee, reflectively.
  • Also, ALL design consultations are done via email with my clients internationally. I find it most effective for the process and provides opportunity for the magic to take place. There is no need to meet in person, nor discuss things via telephone. It’s an energetic exchange I can access by distance, is best accessed when I have time to tune in energetically over the course of our exchanges and in between them, and which has enabled me to work with clients across the globe. The emails provide me a log of our discussions to work with and reflect upon, as well as provide each person the opportunity to get their thoughts, feelings, experiences down in writing, which seems to be very healing and valuable for most people.
  • Remember I do not do the inking. I am a tattoo “DESIGN” artist, specializing in sacred symbolism and spirituality to create “essence” templates that your tattoo artist will be working with and from.
  • The design process is much more than simply drawing something. It is very involved and usually I need a little recharge time between designs. It’s not a process I like to rush, if not necessary. I find that the flow is always perfect when we embrace that and it allows for the process to unfold naturally. Sometimes that is a very quick process and other times, due to energy I am sensing, things take a bit longer.

Thank you for embracing this process with me. It truly makes a difference to be able to work with such amazing souls that understand and value the beauty of this journey.

I don’t think people have fully yet realized the layers to just how much this sacred tattoo journey is life-shifting for those who are drawn to it as their path, and how it can be a way to embody the new, embody your essence, integrate and embody the shadow/light – whole…..but now this is increasingly coming into conscious awareness.

Tattoos are these gifts that keep on giving. At least that’s been my experience and the experience of others who have shared with me their evolving journeys since creating their designs and getting them tattooed.

If you would like to partner in co-creating your own sacred visionary piece of artwork or tattoo design to embody the empowerment you desire, you can contact me at tania@spiritualskin.com.

Tattoos have a power and magic all their own. They decorate the body but they also enhance the soul. ~Michelle Delio

I continue to receive an influx of powerful commissions for sacred tattoo designs that keep me gratefully busy amidst my other work. I am always open to ways to give back and was recently inspired by a few clients to create a referral gift program to do just that.

I know that many of you have been interested in getting more designs or know of people embarking on this path, so perhaps you’ll find this supportive in more ways than one.

Here’s how it works – When you refer a client to me who commissions a sacred tattoo design you will receive 2 FREE Gifts:

1st: Receive a FREE Reiki-charged Crystal

2nd: Receive $100 off YOUR own sacred tattoo design (that’s nearly 60% off your 1st hour’s deposit)

If you’ve already commissioned one, this savings will be applied to your next one – Not transferable

How To Receive Your Gifts:

Make sure that the client you refer shares with me, upon contact, who they were referred by. Once they decide to commission a design, I will contact you about your gifts.

I continue to have a waiting list and due to increased time involved in each piece, which I prefer to flow with rather than feel pressured, and needing to create more time for myself and my other work, I am now only able to take 4 new clients a month, rather than 6, alongside the current waiting list. This also helps me to be able to turn work around more efficiently.

I try to provide a guesstimate on the timing when you commission a piece, but due to clients that have needed more time with their ideas and clarity, as well as some clients being ready when I get to them and others not, things tend to readjust on the timeline with all the shuffling. I’m open and flexible to this and when there’s an opening, I will move on to the next client on the waiting list until I find one that IS ready. And once the client who deferred their place becomes ready, they will receive priority once I’ve completed the current project at hand.

That said, if you have a rush job, due to a tattoo appointment or something else important to you, I will do my best to fit you in on off-hours, but remember that this will equate to a higher hourly rate reflectively. I can’t always guarantee being able to do rush jobs, but you can contact me with your requests and we’ll see what is possible.

Remember that in order to commission a design, I require the first hour deposit upfront, as all tattoos take at least one hour, and the balance is due upon agreement of its closure. This deposit both holds your space, AND is applied as the first hour of the design process.

The design process (the actual pencil to paper time) is $175 an hour.

I don’t charge for the consulting, my tuning in, any research, and writing up the symbolic meaning for each client. There’s a lot that goes into these designs, which is yet another reason I need to decrease how many new clients I can take in, as I need to pace myself energetically.

If you have questions about this you can message me here: Contact Tania Marie

And if you’d like to commission a sacred tattoo design, you can find more information, as well as a link to place your deposit here: Life Changing Tattoos

The Secret Garden ~ Sacred Tattoo Design

Tanya Sacred Tattoo Design

Another enchanting journey in the realm of sacred tattoo designs comes to closure, and yet for my client, that journey has just begun. The title of this one is inspired by my Faery friend, Laura Bruno, who has the most enchanting garden both indoors and outdoors, reflecting a true magickal and witchy “Secret Garden”.

I love hearing and feeling the way these designs have an effect on my clients when they are revealed for the first time. The energy we share in the process is such an intimate connection and so each person becomes dear to me as we share that exchange during the creation and manifestation. Their powerful and beautiful reflections upon seeing them is the reason for why I do what I do.

This particular design is quite a large piece at 15″ long and 7″ at widest point, as it is created to flow down right side of my client’s back from shoulder to waist.

Having a larger space to work with is a lot of fun because I have a larger canvas to weave things in and detailing isn’t as challenging, since it will interpret better in ink when larger. With the size I was also able to create a graceful and ethereal, feminine flow to the piece where there are areas that just have beautiful delicate extensions and swirls and other areas that are a little more solid.

Yet, still, I kept to an organic feel with this and everything has a very balanced essence that anchors and centers the focal point. Although feminine, it is quite a powerful piece and will be a reflection of her sacred and empowered Feminine energy.

My client had shared butterflies and sunflowers were very important to her, which I couldn’t have been more excited about since those are two of my favorite things! Sunflowers are my favorite flower and butterflies have been with me on my spiritual journey as my own empowering symbols.

I felt from the start that there would be more than one butterfly and the same with the sunflowers. I’d seen this vine-like flow immediately too, and then a few other symbols started to flow through that felt key for her. These included a dandelion and dandelion leaf, a ladybug, and two Runes. I will share a bit more on each.

There is on the surface the feeling of this very enchanted garden and then as we dig further we uncover the symbolism embodied within it, to reflect things important to my client and her energy.

Two butterflies: I created the butterflies with a very magickal/faery-like essence with flowing tails to their wings and very ethereal shapes. Each with lovely spiral antennas. The one at top left has antennas that create a subtle heart shape, bringing universal love along with its transformational gifts. These butterflies also represent the more feminine aspects with their gracefulness and curved wings and design, and that connection with understanding both the strength and fragility simultaneously in life. The top left one has a Rune inside it, balanced between both wings from center. More on that below. The butterflies are fluttering around the sunflowers, whose nectar and bright colors attract them, pollinating and bringing “hope” to the flowers in the circle of life.

Three sunflowers: I created two that are in full blossom representing aspects of my client that are in their wholeness, and to empower her into her wholeness, and one that is a bud, which represents spiritual/personal growth and the ever-evolving journey, where she is learning new things about herself and going through continual transformations into these new layers as she continues along her path. Sunflowers are symbolic of the Sun, spiritual attainment, flexibility and opportunity (the way they move their massive heads to meet the sun), faith, longevity, healing, nourishment, focus, good luck, magick, worship, spiritual knowing, life giving force, vitality, warmth, pleasure, and light. Sunflowers are also symbols of spiritual attainment, flexibility and opportunity, the way they move their massive heads to meet the sun. I created the two open blossoms with spiral centers. The spiral is a symbol of creation, movement, fluidity, surrender/releasing, holistic growth, and awareness of the one within the context of the whole. There are three sunflowers and the number three generally symbolizes creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow.

Spirals: in the stems and antennas of the butterflies as well, which signify growth and the above mentioned symbolism of the spirals inside of the sunflowers.

Dandelion and dandelion leaf: dandelions symbolize growth, warmth, clarity, healing, radiance, illumination, positivity, progress, hopes and dreams. The white puffball (rather than the yellow flower) is symbolic of intelligence, clarity, purity, cleansing, spirit/soul, space, and new beginnings. To me it felt also very magickal and faery in essence, with those white little puffs like star seeds when they blow and seed new spark of life. The green leaves/stems represent mother earth, groundedness, wholesomeness, growth, resurgence, nature and life.

Ladybug: the ladybug channeled through along with runes and so one graces one of the sunflower leaves adding her magick. Lady bugs are a sign of good luck, of wishes coming true, love and protection. Lady bug wisdom carries the Golden Strand that leads to the Center of the Universe, represents past lives, spiritual enlightenment, death and rebirth, protection, happiness, love, luck, friendship, good deeds done, and good omens.

Two Runes: Algiz and Dagaz came through for her given things she had shared and what I intuited. The Rune Dagaz is the one at the center of the upper left butterfly. You can read a bit about it at this link: http://runesecrets.com/rune-meanings/dagaz which includes: Awakening – new worlds, new possibilities, new opportunities arise as others fade away, awareness, hope-happiness, the ideal, paradigm shift. All things are interconnected and in a state of constant flux. There is balance in all things, celestial and material.  The Rune Algiz is found within the center of the dandelion leaf as part of the stem extending into the leaf. You can read a bit about it here: http://runesecrets.com/rune-meanings/algiz which includes: the essential link or connection with the patterns of divine or archetypal consciousness. It is divinity, state of listening, protective teaching force, the divine plan, awakening, higher life, connection with gods, courage in the face of fear, activation of higher self, communication with otherworlds, mystical communication, strengthening life force through courageous deeds, promotes independence and faith, spiritual force that envelops you with so much energy you that you are sacred and protected by Divine power.

It is a very magickal and powerful piece all around, which I really enjoyed creating and birthing into life. Flowing with the energy of it and the divine essence my client embodies in her wholeness that I see, enabled this vision to come through.

There is so much more that can be said in how things are placed and how they all intertwine and weave their energy, one into the other, but as always, I hope my clients and the people that view these will enjoy figuring out their own interpretative reflections daily.

Guardian of Sacred Wisdom ~ Owl Tattoo Design

Jerry Sacred Tattoo DesignThis was such an amazing piece to be a part of co-creating with my client. Not only do I absolutely love owls, but the energy that presented itself when channeling this piece is very meaningful to me to be able to create.

I can’t share enough how honored I am to find out that not only will this piece grace his skin, but is going to be the cover of his dissertation, with an inclusion of my description I shared with him, in an appendix to it.

I’m blown away and feeling deeply moved with so much gratitude.

This design was completed on the 11/11 portal, which again is one of those powerful synchronicities that seem to always take place along this sacred design journey.

I had very little to go on in terms of information provided, so I was able to just tune in to what I felt in the words that were shared with me, in between the words, and beyond the words. This brought me to a very expansive energy and presence wanting to birth forth.

I knew how much owls meant to my client and I wanted to bring to life one that would embody the elements that were dear to him, while not being static, as in just sitting there. This led me to create one with wings wide open, as if in flight, or just lifting off into flight (wing power being embodied in it for energetic strength and expansive consciousness). This also reflected how my client loves the “quiet stealth of their flying” as he put it, so this reiterated my vision.

I also had an area to work with on the forearm that created a more narrow space it would sit and while was told it was okay to wrap around if need be, it was important to me that it mostly fit facing forward seen in fullness. This became interesting, as I wanted movement and to see the wings, but didn’t want them fully wrapped around where you couldn’t appreciate them upon first glance. I also didn’t want an owl just sitting there with wings to its side.

There will be a bit of wing wrap to the sides in the area we were working with, (in terms of tip and upper/outer portion of them) but since wings are like our own arms (arms and hands are connected to the sign of Gemini, the Air element, and communication), then this seemed energetically fitting to create some expanse, movement, and flow around.

The owl’s eyes are so important to me as well, and so I wanted an owl with those powerful “windows to the soul” in a partially forward facing position so that you could see both eyes, but with a bit of that “looking off into the distance” quality, creating the visionary essence that they carry.

There is a sense of stillness and grace, even in the fluidity of motion…very empowered, even regal in a way, and yet with humble integrity and peace.

Another thing that stood out to me was my client sharing how he loved that owls were a “global” bird, found all over the world. From onset, this immediately brought to vision me seeing the owl holding Earth within his powerful talons, as if bringing his gifts of ancient wisdom to the collective, teaching us how to live in natural harmony with her, and acting as her guardian and peace keeper, as well as communicative bridge of unity.

Owls also symbolize intuition, magick, they reveal the hidden realm, help us have keen awareness within silence, and signify an old soul and mastery – so energetically I wanted the whole piece/owl to embody this essence as well.

I was then being led to Native American Indian symbolism when I was tuning in, but I was also getting this feeling and vision of a labyrinth. In researching I discovered that the labyrinth was a common Native American Indian symbol that they used to represent life as a journey and our infinite, eternal nature, and that along with other symbolic mandala designs they created, the labyrinth mandala was one of them.

Focusing on the labyrinth mandala is a way to understand that life is what you make it and the way we choose to live it, determines the degree of freedom and expansiveness we experience.

“Every step of the journey is integral to the path of wholeness that you are on. It is ever-changing and ever-perfect, taking you to your own sacred center and back out into the expansive reflection found there. At times you may need to call upon your intuition and creativity, engaging receptivity and courage when deciding to enter the journey to center or not – the way in is the way out.” – something I recently wrote about labyrinths in an article.

This all reiterated my feeling, which went along with the energy I was receiving to make a part of this sacred design. So the labyrinth was added, centered between the owl’s wings, as if they energetically hold this “portal” of life evolution and experience when they fully expand with the breath of freedom the owl soars through the sky with. It felt to be a key gateway that is created from recognizing and embracing our sovereign free will, and then putting that into responsible and accountable action throughout our lives, in every experience, and with all of life that we encounter. Our choices not only have impact on our own journey, but will create how that journey evolves at large in collective connection.

And lastly, to create movement and flow, the addition of the dancing energy that entwines, threads, and holds all of the integral key pieces of this story together in an alchemical current of mutable rapture, emerged.

Garden of the Goddess ~ Sacred Tattoo Mandala Design

Irena Sacred Tattoo DesignIt’s always an interesting challenge when I’m presented a piece to create that incorporates an already existent tattoo. With this design, I was to create something that integrated what you see at center – the Pentagram with Celtic Knot inverted triangle and the Moon phases.

From there, I wove the rest of the journey, incorporating my client’s essence and aspects of herself she wanted to draw forth for the new leg of her journey, as well as to bring to the surface in a more empowered way.

I told her immediately that I was feeling to create something ethereal and graceful, yet powerful, embodying a sacred and empowered Goddess essence. I also wanted it to have both an Earthy and mystical energy, combining balanced sacred geometry, but with a flowy, organic quality that is unique and feminine, actively creating itself in the moment.

It turned out to feel very Faery in essence and almost like a stained glass window or lattice work effect…so it’s like a vision peering into the soul essence of who she is and her intricacies – very tender and vulnerable, but regal and intentfully strong. A beautiful weaving of who she is, like an illuminated star blossom.

Immediately when I started tuning in, I received the Peacock, Moth, and Star Jasmine and the rest wove itself as I wanted to tie in qualities that would enhance the tattoo she already had, and also work with its essence, so that it looks like it was meant to be and not pieced together.

Overall, I feel like it’s a portal into this enchanted Garden of the Goddess (or Empress/High Priestess). So magickal!!

I love when my clients are open to what flows through, realizing there is a reason that something they may not have considered, shows up. This client had shared a couple of things that she resonated with, but they did not energetically do so for me when I tuned in, at least not in literal ways, or particularly for this piece. They were not matching the essence of the design and what wanted to come through, so I was guided that there was another way to bring about the energy in a more subtle and feminine flow that worked in alignment with her current tattoo.

For instance, my client had shared resonance with Elephants, and while a very powerful symbol, felt heavy, even if done in line drawings that she liked, and not as intricate and beautiful to her layers and this sacred feminine quality that ended up being created. It also didn’t energetically feel to fit with her current tattoo and I don’t like to just add things together that have no connective factor…I wanted it to blend and feel like one unified piece.

And the Tree of Life she also was drawn to came out in sort of an energetic/abstract way through this piece, rather than literal like so many other people have. There is a quality of entwined and wrapping branches from the six-pointed, organic star that bloom/grow from the center, which is like a Heart Chakra Lotus, because it has 12 petals. So the family connection and her roots are at the core of her being and heart, and are the connection of unity for her. The branches, rather than purely straight, bend like vines in this lattice work, showing her resiliency and strength to flow in any situation. And the branch-like vines double as the Star Jasmine vines, from which they grow as well – so many layers of symbolism, as you’ll continue to see.

Anyway, there is so much to continue to find and unravel in the piece. Here are some of the aspects included:

Personal Empowerment Mandala: (feels like the mandala is fluid and moving, so it is not static, although created with sacred geometry – has a flowing quality that recreates itself each moment as she shifts and changes) Mandalas are geometric figures representing the Universe. In this case, she is the Universe and this empowerment mandala is a reflection of the very “fabric” of her You-niverse – the core of her being and aspects of her higher self to help her to move more gracefully into expressing that. The mandala will help to focus her energy in a way that is connected to her authentic self.

Peacock: the Peacock was a surprise to her, although she resonated with and loved the energetic symbolism of them always. I find it powerful when things are revealed to my clients about themselves that they hadn’t fully thought of, or that sneak up on them. Often the very reason things at first sit a bit odd, is because they haven’t yet fully embraced this part of themselves it reflects, or the responsibility and power it might bring up for them. The Peacock has a very regal essence and is both humble and yet stands with dignity and strength. There is a tenderness in its eyes and a feeling of honoring and respect, as well as flowing grace. I just wanted hints of the peacock coming forth, so two gorgeous flowing tail feathers delicately peek through one end, as the Peacock emerges from the other. Almost as if this mandala is a dimensional portal where things manifest from and come through as it shifts into the right elements to create alchemy. And all of the things you find in the piece are qualities of her essence and wholeness that are peeking forth and emerging more, as she steps into her fullness and power. From elegant, Earthly being, majestically and gracefully reigning over the gardens of life, they transform into an other-worldly, Phoenix-like creature soaring magickally through the limitless sky. Peacocks symbolize many things including integrity, the beauty we can achieve through showing our authentic colors, guidance, protection, holiness, nobility, vibrancy, help on your spiritual path, breath of new life into your experience, rejuvenating self-esteem, expansion of your creativity and imagination, and courage to show up as your unique self. They also symbolize glory, vision, watchfulness, royalty, spirituality, awakening, immortality, refinement, beauty, desire, enjoying life, generosity, longevity, compassion, sensuality, immortality, and expansiveness. In Buddhism the peacock symbolizes expansive consciousness and is representative of the all-compassionate goddess Kuan Yin. The eyes of the peacock feathers symbolizing the omniscient essence of the soul that is all-seeing and all-knowing. As a royal status, peacocks represent the realm of the Empress and High Priestess. Being a solar animal peacocks express the essence of vitality, radiance, glory, stimulation, life, health, and invigoration. Alchemical traditions compare the resurrecting Phoenix to our modern-day Peacock, bestowing the symbolism of renewal upon it.

Moth: (there are two on the right top and left bottom at a diagonal) Moths are nocturnal. They symbolize dreams, shadows, otherworldliness, secret knowledge, higher awareness, psychic awareness and enhancement, inner knowing to navigate through the darkest hours of our lives, faith in uncertain shadowy times, vulnerability, determination, wise and balanced use of concealment – blend in when necessary and adjust and adapt when needed, attraction, subtlety and subtle allure, intuition, determination, navigation by lunar energy and light (feeling), vigilance in following your path of light, keeping your vigilance, adjusting your course accordingly to indications sensed rather than drive forward without heeding signs…

Star Jasmine: Jasmine remind you that all is in Divine order with the Divinity of your existence. (they remind me of nature’s stars and worked symbolically and aesthetically so beautifully I felt) They are simple star-shaped, five-petaled blossoms – ethereal and magickal. White Jasmine is both known as poet’s Jasmine and the “Queen of flowers.” They have an intoxicating fragrance that draws in hummingbirds, butterflies, and humans alike. Jasmine flowers symbolize many things to many different cultures.  Some of these include love, romance, modesty, sensuality, amiability, nobility, grace, and elegance. However, the Jasmine also holds strong spiritual and religious significance, as it has been a constant symbol of divinity and hope. They felt like the perfect magickal touch to this piece, both of nature of also like star blossoms, tying in the star pentacle you have on your tattoo, and your own integration of cosmic and earthly essence. They float like the illumination the moths are instinctively and intuitively following to stay on their path/which is you and your instinctive clarity guiding you. Some of the star jasmine are entwined in the flowing Celtic knots of the mandala, as they speak of integration and the many layers you have, how all things are connected and integral to the journey.

Hexagon:  The mandala took on a 6-pointed design, which holds a very potent and beautiful quality. The number six is also significant and felt meaningful for her. It represents harmony, balance, soulful integration, perfect union, communication, sincerity, love, beauty, truth, enlightenment, naturally revealing solutions for us in a calm, unfolding manner, delicate diplomacy in sensitive matters, reliability, home, family, lighting our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance, and encourages compassion and forgiveness. It is connected with the very powerful Hexagon and Merkaba.

Star Essence: the total piece has the essence of a star symbolism, as well as a blossom…or rather I’d say – a star blossom. Her current tattoo nestled as the center of this organic flower that then emanates, opens and reveals more layers to itself as it blossoms.

Celtic Knot: found in the branching vines are used to tie in with her tattoo at center, creating the essence of eternity and continuity.

In Memory Of ~ Sacred Mandala Tattoo Design

Sacred Tattoo Design MandalaThis design is a custom Mandala created for a client that wanted to honor her mother. She wears a tattoo that honors her father already, and so this one will be in compliment to that piece.

It will bring balance as a sweet energy partner to the more masculine, bolder energy of the piece she wears, with more feminine qualities, as well as a more spiritual, ethereal lightness/softness. I didn’t want to create something overly dual in nature, but rather something that would combine some energetic elements so that they enhance and merge, rather than are complete opposites. So I used some bolder lines to match her other design, but with a softer quality.

Her relationship with her mother was different than her relationship with her father – much more layered, in depth, and complex.

There’s a sacred centering quality with this design in creating symmetry, and a mix of pointed edges combined with rounded ones, and flow/organic, as well as sacred symbolism.

I combined the elements that were important to my client and managed to get them all in. In this case, she knew what she wanted and the symbolism it all represented, but it was up to me to figure out how to put them all together, interpret, and combine them somehow – to tell the story.

Sometimes my clients have very clear ideas of what they would like and other times they bring the essence, and I supply the vision to reflect it.

The elements she brought to me to work with were the Dragonfly (represents her mom’s spirit/have shown up for her since her passing at meaningful times – she desired something abstract), Scales of Justice (representing Libra, which her mom was), Star (a beautiful bright star was in the sky the last night before her mom transitioned/this also provides comfort of her presence), Greek Key (her heritage), Mandala (sacred/spiritual connection), and Heart Chakra essence (her spirituality and yoga practice).

The Dragonfly is at center and I created it abstractly, as desired, subtly but strong, and with a transparent quality, and yet her presence is integral and stabilizing to the energy. She anchors the center and the middle of the body I actually created as an Infinity symbol for that unity and cycles of life essence – all things are connected and eternal. The darker lines are the wings at both sides that you can see through clearly, sort of mirroring that reflective/luminescent quality they have in real life. The Dragonfly of course representing her mother and the way she has messaged her. The Dragonfly also very subtly has a mirroring quality to the Scales of Justice it points to above.

I wanted the whole piece to have a very layered and complex feel, to symbolize the more in depth and layered relationship she shared having with her mother, as well as each of their individually dimensional layers. So the design is built upon these layers and also the wings of the Dragonfly are transparent, creating vulnerability and dissolving of illusions, as well as clarity of focus and intent.

The main part of the Mandala is created as the Heart Chakra Twelve-Petaled Lotus. Inside of the twelve petals this blossom is layered with almost like a Sun and even Star quality effect with tiers of petals both rounded and in temple points with some delicate dot detailing on some and shaded aspects for depth and contrast. The center of the blossom, like a full Moon, illuminates behind the Infinity symbol.

The bottom of the Dragonfly is created almost as a stem and petaled detailing (also somewhat reminds me of the fleur-de-lis design) that holds the Infinity symbol and anchors the body in grounded balance, but also holds and frames the emanating center that is blossoming and illuminating outward. The Dragonfly has a strong and refined presence, although is integrated into the design and revealing to the layers beneath it.

I added 3 dots at both top and bottom to tie in with the dotted quality in the blossoms (adding some hints of delicate Mehndi quality) and to draw energy both up and down, in and out, as above, so below…Three is a symbol of creative power, growth, magic, intuition, expression, versatility, pure joy of creativity, celebration, very goddess energy connected and reflective of the Empress in the Tarot, overcoming duality, manifestation, integration, complete cycles, flow.

And at the top of the center, and above the Dragonfly, is a Seven-Pointed Star anchoring flowing tendrils of energy at either side that double as the Libra essence (her mother was a Libra) with subtle Scales of Justice ending in Greek Key design (again her heritage). The Seven-Pointed Star is also known as the Pleiadian Star or Faery Star and is a Gateway to the Otherworld. A beautiful reminder of eternal life and her eternal connection to her mother.

This, along with the entirety of the symbolism in this piece, representing her ability to connect with her mother through the portal of her Heart Chakra, as her presence – the Dragonfly – is always with her and can be accessed in this way. The energy also speaks to the qualities she is gifted to integrate into the totality of who she is as a reflection of her mother…and also father (the design she already wears), as a blending of both and yet emerging as something more.

Such a beautiful energy and connection between mother and daughter that I was able to assist in bringing forth. It’s meaningful to be able to create memorable pieces like this for others.
