Let today be a reminder of love being the most powerful force and transmutational energy that can change your life and experience of it. This isn’t isolated to one day a year, but available always. It’s so easy not to be vulnerable to love and allow a hardening around our hearts to taint us. But as easily as we can stop the flow, we can also start choosing to release that tension and allow natural harmony to wash over, in, through, and around us once again. And as you ponder love’s healing power and the many ways there might be past injuries to the heart still guiding your life, remember that the greatest healing love starts with loving yourself. It is from that place within that everything else will be a reflection of or perspective of.
Try saying “I love you!” at least ten times to yourself today, as you look yourself in the eyes through a mirror. Add a good self hug in there too. You deserve it.
Then try doing this each day until you break down the barriers around your heart, release what’s under those closed doors to heal, and the painful tears turn to joyous tears, as you come to see the beauty of your spirit truly for the first time.
If you don’t have a loved one to share today with, good news. The best friend and lover is yourself. Do something sweet and generous for you. Whatever that may be that speaks to your heart. Simple or big, it doesn’t matter. Just do it and indulge in self nurturing. Your spirit, heart, body, mind, and soul will thank you.
I realized yesterday how potent today – Valentine’s Day – and the energy surrounding this day has been over the last couple of years for me and my little ones with big souls.
And while I shared February’s Newsletter last evening, which focused on the importance and value of self love and individual expression, I know that my beautiful animal companion partners have been instrumental in helping me to discover the layers of myself to love.
As I shared in my newsletter, “it just so happens that things have aligned to create Valentine’s Day as my day of falling in love with myself in a renewed way….celebrating a rekindling of my relationship to myself on a whole new level, as well as beginning a transition into another leg of my journey with shifts of focus and romancing my soul’s essence in a new dance of life.”
That dance of life couldn’t have been possible without my sweet loves and the precious and valuable reflections they have gifted me. Their soul journeys and the energy they carry have been the alchemy of my life.
And, this day – Valentine’s Day – one year ago was the beginning of Cosmo and Joy’s dance together, uniting the Sacred Masculine and Feminine energies that reflected for me the union within myself I was also ready to embrace and empower.
It is so interesting to see how throughout my life I mostly had only female animal companions.
I had only one other male energy – my first male rabbit, Twinkie, but for only three months of my life before he left this Earth. He began my journey, holding that point for me on the path, reminding me I would need to revisit his energy again when I was ready.
But it appears I needed to work with the Feminine energy first, as the collective has been doing too.
And so every dear companion after Twinkie was female – all of my parakeets and then of course Nestor, Gaia, and Joy.
It wasn’t until Cosmo that the Sacred Masculine returned…when I was ready to unite those parts in a new way within myself.
As it isn’t just about the Feminine focus. We cannot forget the Masculine and we will need revisit the Male energy to integrate both in their highest potential and purity, for wholeness.
This is the symbolism of divine love through divine union of both parts to create harmony.
And Joy and Cosmo’s journey has mirrored the energies I’ve been working on within myself, simultaneously. All of what has taken place couldn’t have been possible if we hadn’t been ready to integrate the next layers.
On this day, February 14th, 2015, in Big Bear, which was Joy and Cosmo’s first travels together, they shared their first and very long, peaceful nose-to-nose connection, which is what you see in this photo below.
And since that day, it’s been the most beautiful love connection filled with mutual respect, honor, tenderness, and warmth, which evolved into this not long after:
I can’t believe both that it’s already been a year, but that it’s only been a year!
It seems like an eternal love we have shared together across time.
And speaking of love across time…I’ve had Gaia on my mind a lot recently, finding myself connecting with the Tortoise/Turtle energy and using it as example for a lot of things I talk about….”slow and steady like the turtle” I often find myself saying…or “going within like the turtle”.
I then yesterday got struck with the realization of a very poignant and memorable experience that happened with Gaia, two years ago yesterday.
On February 13th, 2014 I shared this story about Gaia, Tattoos, Lapis Lazuli & Expansive Shifts ~ The Journey Continues
And in the story was a recounting of what took place right before Gaia went into the Earth for good, and back to her expansive self without a body. I realized just yesterday the magnitude of that moment we shared now with ever greater meaning that at the time had a different meaning.
Now I understand Gaia was saying much more than a farewell for now, as since she did not return, she was actually soulfully sharing her eternal love and gratitude across space and time until our return to each other in spirit one day.
Here is the excerpt from my post of that experience we shared:
“I’d like to finish this post with the most endearing, amazing, and precious moment of reverence and love I’ve had with Gaia – I’m tearing up right now writing this. The depth of meaning to all that has been unfolding and that does in my daily life, in general, I can’t possibly express. Yet, I know many of you understand in your own unique ways with all that you experience. So some things are simply left unsaid.
This special experience happened this morning. Since Gaia returned, we washed her up and brought her indoors. The first evening she spent on her heating blanket, then fell asleep on the cold tile, likely needing to moderate her body temperature back in stages. She remained out of it and still not eating. Next morning she spent on her heating blanket and still no food, but later during Reiki training, she came marching through and made her way to my office and I later found her asleep under the bottom of my wall tapestry of Faery Queen Astranaithes – also known as the magickal Dragon Witch.
This morning when she woke up I brought her to her heating blanket and then put out some more food. This time she went to it and slowly ate several bites, taking her time to assimilate it. Then I watched what she wanted to do next, as I made smoothies and golden raisin, cinnamon scones in the kitchen. I saw her walk toward the door to the yard and looked at it, then went back to her heating blanket. I had a feeling she wanted back outside.
I went to go sit with her and check in. And this is when the most magickal moment happened.
I won’t be able to explain the magnitude, but I’ll just share what I experienced. I sat there with my hand, palm facing up, next to her, as I telepathically spoke to her. My hand started heating up like when I do Reiki and then Gaia slowly reached her right, front leg up and forward, letting it come to rest across my index and middle fingers where they connect to my palm. And she kept it there, as she then turned her neck towards me and stretched it as far as she could, looking me directly in my eyes, while we sat there – “holding hands”.
I was overcome with emotions hearing her saying thank you for everything, for trusting, and supporting her. All of the mutual respect, honor, gratitude and love we have shared through the ages all washed over us both in those minutes and we also were clear on how this journey would need to continue. I understood.
We were not only a human with her tortoise companion – leg in hand, but we were two souls meeting in our wholeness, as we recognized everything in that moment that was us and beyond us.
Tears rolled, as she then reached forward into my hand with her left, front leg and then slowly put half her body in my hand while again stretching to look up at me, asking me to lift and hold her up, as she once did for me. I held her to my heart and then knew she wanted back outside and wanted me to carry her there. I can share that Gaia has returned to the depths of Gaia – our connection and understanding deepened in mirror to the depths she will be traveling.”
I did not know then that our next meeting would be beyond this Earth experience.
And now I understand.
I understand so much more than I once have and that has come through the love and connection I share with my dear little ones.
Gaia, Joy, Cosmo, and Nestor have been my soul companions on a journey back to myself.
We have each supported one another and continue to do so regardless of being on or off Earth.
I have such a deep reverence for these souls that moves me beyond words. What they have helped me to uncover within myself could only have been through these bonds we shared.
I am deeply grateful they chose to show up with me again, this time around, as they/we knew it would be through our bond that I would evolve and work through my layers, just as I could support them with their journeys.
I have learned that love – the kind that is beyond physical love and walks the path of cosmic expansive love – is often the guiding force that trumps responsibility when we are challenged with doing what we know.
It’s no wonder that the souls in animal bodies would be the instruments to my soul’s evolution.
They know the way to my heart and my inner soul child.
And it is that heart and soul of the child within that has been the key all along.
The purity that resides there is the only mission I am driven to protect and express.
This is my little ones’ message for me…stand in the power, love, and purity of my innocence no matter what happens and takes place, for that is the sacred mystery that we seek.
And in order to do so I am my own mother and father…my own male and female partners…my own lover…my own friend…nurturing, guiding, loving, and supporting that innocence of being to sing her song she carries within her energetic signature.
Your inner soul child is simply wanting to be heard. And being heard, actually entails you have taken to heart what he or she says, and make a new commitment to do at least one small thing each day to support the requests.
These requests aren’t simply whims, but reflect a deeper knowing that will likely surpass your ability in the now to comprehend, but if you take the trustful steps to support them and do what it takes to integrate what could be of assistance to that process, the results will bless you beyond measure of any one thing you feel lacking and have been chasing after.
A new kind of clarity and understanding is available to each of us. It will awaken and shift you the instant you recognize and embrace it. And it will always keep you in check so as to alert you of imbalances where you can then make different choices that will harmonize and return that balance that is so needed for everything to flourish.
This will also help you to become more attuned to the natural world that will move you in divine cycles, rather than struggling against them to create artificial ones.
So, where are the barriers to your self love?
Removing the veils and masks will help you to be real about how you feel, not hiding behind what you think you “should” be feeling, saying, or showing to others.
If you can’t be genuine with something – and you know when you’re not – then take time to explore what’s behind that.
This is a time for opening up and expanding into more authentic love and compassion for self, others, and all of life.
Make this Valentine’s Day be the day of romancing YOUR soul’s essence in a new dance of life.
Every day of the year is opportunity to give from your heart and share love, but sometimes those marker days are an added bonus reminder to turn up the gratitude meter. As we approach Valentine’s Day, which many people enjoy celebrating, you might be thinking of ways to indulge your loved ones, and maybe even yourself, with some of the chocolate love this day has become synonymous with for many. And if you happen to also be vegan, there is no longer any reason you can’t enjoy all the chocolate bliss along with others, while also supporting the environment, animals, and your own health and well-being with pure, organic, cruelty-free ingredients. My friend Celeste has a great vegan blog called “Honk If You’re Vegan” (where she blogs about all things vegan from recipes to reviews, ramblings, health and nutrition) and she shared this “yummy” post on Vegan Chocolate Valentine’s Gifts I hope you’ll enjoy. She provides several great gift options at affordable prices. They all look amazing! Some other options, which also include some raw vegan chocolate, include (but not limited to): Coracao Confections , Sacred Chocolate , Lulu’s Chocolate , or perhaps your own basket mix of scrumptious chocolate bars from Righteously Raw Chocolate , or the amazing Kate Magic’s Raw Living assortment of ethical, high-vibe chocolate (which I just got to sample when she brought me some from the UK). However you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, or (like me) any day you would like an infusion of decadent pleasure, you can enjoy your chocolates without compromise and with a lot of intentional love. Enjoy!!
My husband and I cheated on our plant-strong diet too much over the holidays, mostly on sugar. We’ve been back on track since New Year’s, however; so I decided to treat my hubby with chocolate for Valentine’s Day. An occasional indulgence (as long as it’s really occasional!) ain’t gonna kill him. Here’s some goodies I’m considering:
1. Vanilla Kissed Strawberry Bark
A hint of vanilla mingles with fruity strawberries and smooth dark chocolate in this romantic, gluten-free bark. This would be a thrifty choice at $15.00 from Allison’s Gourmet.
2. Lagusta’s Luscious Small Assorted Collection
A fabulous selection of 100% fair trade, organic and vegan truffles, bonbons, caramels and toffee. This looks like a great pick, and I love that the company combines a deep commitment to social justice, environmentalism and animal rights with an obsessive commitment to artisan techniques of a chocolatier. $32.00 from Lagusta’s Luscious.

Another cycle approaches, as Winter winds down and Spring is soon to sprout through. What does February’s Winter celebration of St. Valentine and March’s explosion of Spring have in common? They both coincidentally share the reverence of “green symbolism” – more notably, the Heart Chakra. How can this be, you ask, as you are so used to those pink and red hearts and roses you see abound on Valentine’s Day?
Well, both carry an air of blossoming new hope and renewal of joyful splendor, where matters of the heart and life are concerned. Pink AND green, both coincidentally are representative of the energy of the Heart Chakra. Although green is the primary color used with it, it can also be effective to use pink stones (such as Rose Quartz) if they resonate for you, to bring in their softness, in working with the Heart Chakra.
Green is a color that represents many things to many people–a melting pot of symbolism. The word green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, meaning “to grow.” Everything blooming, growing…a never-ending, cyclical process. Growth is our natural state and anything less than this, simply is “unnatural.” Speaking of which, the most common association for green seems to be found in its ties to nature, naturally.
Romans used green holly and evergreen as decorations for their winter solstice celebration, Saturnalia, which evolved into a green celebration called Christmas. It is also the traditional color of Islam and was symbolic of resurrection and immortality in Ancient Egypt, where the god Osiris was also depicted as green-skinned. Irish legend states that green clothes attract faeries and aid crops and the “Wearing of the Green” thus symbolizes the birth of springtime. It is known to signify witchcraft for its association with spirits of early English folklores and literatures that also traditionally use it to symbolize nature and its embodied attributes of life, fertility, and rebirth.
In metaphysics, the Seven Rays system of Alice Bailey, which classifies different metaphysical personality types of humans, designates those of the third ray of creative intelligence as being “on the Green Ray,” while psychics who see auras refer to those with a green aura as typically having health/healing related occupations and being nature lovers. To me, green is the earth and it’s gardens and the caring for it. It’s the color that stimulates transformation, harmony, fertility, abundance and prosperity, endurance, stability, and regal presence. It represents safe passage (like the green traffic light), balances emotions, calms, and is also the alchemy of consciousness from one realm to another through the spiraling energies of DNA. The feeling of green is earthy and yet still feels very much like liquid, with a fluidity that is enchanting. Think enchanted forest or Emerald Bay of Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
And yet mostly, for me, green denotes love.
It is in the stories of the medieval period and in Hinduism that we come to learn how green is a true expression of the all-encompassing heart. Medieval stories portrayed it as representing love and the base, natural desires of man, while the Hindu’s use it to symbolically represent the fourth or Heart Chakra. You see, not only is pink indicative of love and the heart, but green is also a very powerful color linked with unconditional love.
In the human energy system, the source of powerful and creative, unconditional love lies at the center of your chest in the Heart Chakra, or “Anahata,” in Sanskrit. This fourth Chakra also lies center of our Chakra energy system and is the most powerful energy, in my opinion, that exists. It acts as a bridge between the upper and lower three Chakras; a bridge between all worlds and illusionary divisions, and a bridge that integrates and balances opposites (body and spirit, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity). It is symbolized by a lotus of twelve petals and the color green, with emerald as one of its associated gemstones. It is from this place of peaceful centeredness that love emanates as divine power.
As our Heart Chakra, green has great healing power and protective qualities. It is the one thing we humans can use powerfully when we learn to naturally access it and stay centered in the presence of it’s energy constantly. The Heart Chakra is an impenetrable force of healing that has no boundaries or limitations. It asks that we see, feel, think, and act on a whole other level that is motivated by nothing more than love. When we come from the purity of our hearts and commit to that compassion and acceptance, it implores us to embrace the essence of our being and know the beauty of all of existence, as an extension of ourselves.
The Heart Chakra is the jewel of all Chakras, and its green energy is the emerald beauty of all gems.
It was this journey of the heart that became the inspiration behind creating my compassionately conscious business, Emerald Bridge – a merging of body and spirit through the heart with visionary healing arts services. Emerald Bridge was born to reflect and embody this divine and powerful essence of the Heart Chakra and its integrative, healing synergy, helping to spread unconditional love across the globe.
The Irish also have a beautiful symbol that embodies this Heart Chakra essence – the Claddagh ring. It has a history dating back to over 300 years and is one of history’s most meaningful and respected jewels. The features of the Claddagh ring symbolize some of the best virtues of human life. The heart held in the hands show love and the hands represent friendship and togetherness, the crown on the heart symbolizes loyalty–all virtues that have increasingly been forgotten in today’s materialistic world. No wonder many people remain fascinated by this Irish ring. People wish that some things would never change. And even though change is natural and inevitable, the core foundation of love that has transcended time, is one thing it wouldn’t hurt to hold on to, and could only benefit us more as we deepen and broaden through its evolvement. Our values and how we treat and honor ourselves, others, and everything around us are telling of what we see as our creation, in respect. Another description of the ring expresses how the heart represents the hearts of each and every member of mankind, in addition to the element which gives everlasting music to the Gael. (Remember that springtime song of birds and love ringing in our ears). The ring is also based on and directly correlative to the Shamrock, one of the oldest symbols of the Holy Trinity among the Irish. This interpretation describes the crown as a symbol of the Father, the left hand as the Son, and the right hand as the Holy Spirit, all caring for the heart in the center, symbolizing humanity. Throughout each varying symbolism, a single theme shines through, specifically that the ring symbolizes the trinity of “Love, Loyalty, and Friendship” or, in Gaelic, “Grá, Dílseacht agus Cairdeas” (pronounced ‘graw, dealshocked ogis cordiss’).
“The hands are there for friendship,
The heart is there for love.
For loyalty throughout the year,
The crown is raised above.”
Through that emerald glow of love, we can create and be in that loving energy any moment of the eternity of our lives. And the more we share our green, we can carpet the earth with velvet lawns of unconditional experience. Wearing love and life on our sleeves for always. Let us remember and reflect while we embrace the opportunity to begin anew, by planting tomorrow-seeds, in the now of today.
On this Valentine’s Day I would like to plant the seed of “presence of gratitude and love” daily. As always, these day markers are wonderful times to consciously remind yourself of things you may not be so present with during the day-to-day goings on. Unconditional love and sharing your gratitude in ways that let your loved ones, family, friends, and even people you meet on the street, or connect with in a thought, and see or read about remotely, know that they are cherished, beloved, valuable children of the Universe. And yes, that includes you.
As you connect more deeply with yourself, humanity, and all of creation far and wide you come to experience the true freedom of your core, luminous being.
Let your intuition and heart be your guidance and your trust, belief, imagination, passion, and connection, your wings to get there. It is hard to wrap our minds around things because the truth is, it is the heart that has to touch it.
Perhaps we’ll start seeing the giving of green hearts and plants with heart-shaped leaves like the Emerald Ripple, Heart Fern, Heart-Leaf Philodendron, or English Ivy for Valentine’s Day. While flowers are beautiful, plants are “green.”
(Plants can help slow down global warming by a method known as Carbon offset) – LOVE yourself, LOVE each other, LOVE all of life, and LOVE this Earth!
I hope you enjoy these expressions of love to carry with you and through you every mindful moment of your life:

In honor of this love-filled day, I am sharing a love and passion of mine, as well as a love gift special. Some of my most favorite paintings I’ve created have been the animal companion portraits I have supported clients with. I have featured some of them in this blog to share, for those who haven’t seen them on my website.
Animals are beloved friends that I am deeply connected with and it is my joy to bring their essence to life in a very unique way for others, so that the depth of their soul is brought into the light. I make a deep connection with each animal companion that I am honored to capture on canvas in order to embody their uniqueness and divinity. I have been honored to work with some really lovely souls, both animal and human in bringing these creations about.
Animals demonstrate unconditional love in the purest of ways. They also help support us to learn to love ourselves in our authenticity and to connect to our beautiful Earth Mother and nature. Their essence is a mirror of love and they hold healing messages for us to embrace and integrate.
The first painting pictured here is called “Reflections” and was a wedding gift for a new bride and groom of their beloved animal companion, Rufus, that also reflected their love of the ocean and beach and captured the energy of the life they are embarking upon.
“Discoveries” not only was created for a family’s love of their dear little Lucy, but to capture the essence of Lucy’s spirit and love for discovery of life.
“Everyday Miracles” was a birthday gift to capture the qualities of finding joy and transformative opportunities in life that dear little Madison displays for her human companion.
“Sanctuary” captures Fidel and Potato, two very different personalities in their feline sanctum, as a Christmas gift from brother to sister. A complimentary match of feline friends comfortable in the presence of “being,” each as they are.
“Nestor” was created of my beloved when she was a baby to capture her magickal innocence and the tenderness of her child at heart radiance she embodies and instills within me.
Each piece has not only reflected the soul of the companion, but carries a message through that animal companion to its human companion to help embrace the energy they have to share and the support they impart as inspiration daily. There are always many layers to the paintings I create and these animal portraits are no exception.
If you are interested in a truly timeless piece of art that will touch your heart always, please contact me with your requests. I am offering through this blog, a 40% discount on my animal companion portraits in honor of the love I share for all of creation. This special is good through May 31st, 2012.
Here are a couple of testimonials from happy human companions:
“We love, love, love the painting. The colors used for the sunset are breathtaking and the way they mesh together shows true talent on your part. Rufus looks adorable too! He looks just like the picture Dave sent you when Rufus was a puppy, but with a slightly more mature look to him. Rufus sitting in the water symbolizes to us, our deep sense of spirituality, which we share with each other and with Rufus. Rufus, the beach and the ocean are very meaningful to us and to our relationship. All three are great sources of inspiration, spirituality and positivity for Jim and I. The beach, coupled with Rufus, is like hitting the jackpot for us, and then add the bond that Jim and I share, and the feeling is beyond compare; beyond our wildest dreams. Thank you for artistically tying the beach and Rufus together to create a beautiful painting that Jim and I will cherish forever.”

“Tania, I wanted to write a testimonial on your site about how much I loved the painting you did of Madison. I wake up to it every morning and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me. I received this painting as a surprise birthday gift from my dear friend. I was speechless when I first laid eyes on it. The colors, so bright and majestic, immediately catch the eye and slowly begin to unveil a story; Madison’s story. Tania is articulate and captured Madison’s true beauty and essence in this painting. I am extremely impressed by her work and can officially say I received the gift of a lifetime. I will cherish it forever. Tania is extremely talented and I am so fortunate to have received a piece of her work.
Thank you again for creating the gift of a lifetime,”
